Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

Wouldn't surprise me. I bet that they used the same process to make it.

looks like they did. royal blue, but might be a slightly different pattern. interestingly, if I'm reading correctly, only RDJ's suit was, the rest of the race crew was a different material.

So here's another question: The roundish belt thingies. I expect they're manufactured like everything else, but does anyone know what they're supposed to be for? There's the one on the right side in front, and two in back.

I think it's where she pulled the throwing disks from in the fight sequence, but the whole thing goes by so fast that even after two viewings I'm not sure.

Has anyone seen a found object like them? EDIT: And then my hubby got up, read the thread, and said, "Handcuffs." So now I'm hunting through handcuff cases.

After a spin through Home Depot yesterday, I'm considering urethane shower liner as a possible material. Also considering rubber garage door bottom for the main belt, with trimming to make the top and bottom edges match. It's softer than I'd prefer, but it would give the right shape.

Krylon's vinyl coating paint does come in a flat charcoal grey -- found it at an auto parts store -- so whatever I end up Frankensteining together (probably with Shoe Goo) will get a coat of that for uniformity. I might even still cannibalize a couple pouches from a Rubies Batman utility belt. I picked one up and sprayed it black (hadn't found the charcoal grey vinyl coating at the time) for my "quick 'n' dirty" opening-day costume:

The pouches are a little big, but I might go with them anyway because I like the idea of a superhero costume where I can actually CARRY necessities for a change! If I do go that route, I'll probably keep this belt the way it is for multi-purpose use and go back to the party store for another one to cannibalize. They're only $4.99.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure the pouches were for the little gadgets she had.

Two were mini tasers and two were smokebombs.

Pretty sure that the pouches and cases hold smoke bombs and taser things.

As for paint, I think that there is a clear acrylic paint that is flat. That might work.

As it turns out the pouch that holds the disk is close to a handcuff case but not so much. I think that could look the part though.

Yeah, after looking at a LOT of handcuff cases, I've seen a few that were close, but nothing that was quite the right shape. At this point I think I'm just going to borrow a page from Izabel's guy and build them from 1/8" rubber sheeting.

As for the hip belt itself, I finally hit on the right search terms to turn up the kind of automotive trim discussed early in the thread. The closest match I've located is, much to my amusement, from a Porsche 911 (only the best for Natasha!):

The proportion of the welt along both edges is right; I have a question in to the seller as to the width. If it turns out to be paydirt I'll let you guys know. There are several strips of the same type listed at the moment. (Edit: Or I could just scroll farther down the eBay page and see that the seller posted a picture of it actually attached to a car, which confirms the scale. I think we have a winner!)

The vinyl/fabric spray paint (I remembered the brand wrong -- it's Rust-Oleum, not Krylon, and the charcoal grey on the cap of the can I found in person was several shades darker than the picture on the link is showing up on my monitor) is formulated to be flexible. I was more than pleased with the results of the gloss black I used on my other belt, so I'm confident the flat charcoal grey will be equally satisfactory. Acrylic is a good backup plan, but I think we'll probably get better adhesion and flexibility from the spray paint.

Back on the subject of the boots, I happened on a pair of these on my last thrift store run, and I don't see us finding anything better for the flat version. I'm going to paint or Sharpie the silver piping, and then build on a neoprene/faux leather instep and shaft.

The costume I did I wasn't going for 100% screen accurate, but I think it still came out pretty good.

For the belt I just used dark grey vinyl.

The bodysuit fabric I found was a double-knit lycra which has the right amount of stretch and has the subtle texture of the original. The underlayer of this fabric is gray, but if it were dyed a dark navy, the highlights of navy might show through. The fabric swatch doesn't look anything like the costume stills, and even in digital it read as "textured black" on the big screen. So I'm not fussed about it.

You did an AWESOME job!

And I may be interested in that fabric run if it comes to pass as well.

There's an Iron Man 2 thread floating around that has the exact brand of handcuff case it is and its a close, if not exact, match. I'll poke around and see if I can find it but take a look.

I went back through the thread after posting that reply and saw that someone had mentioned Kydex. Saw some that look pretty good, but I think I'm still going to make them. It shouldn't be too difficult.

If I turn out to be wrong about that, though, it's nice to have a backup plan! :)

Got my trading card today. The pattern is way tinier than I expected. Gonna break the card open to see how thick the material is.

I know right...

If you go off of what the costume designer said, it would have heavyweight, but I was tempted to break mine open too

It looks to be heavyweight in the movie. Way more heavyweight than her. :lol

Such a nice card that I hate to tear it open. But i did the same thing for Batman Begins in order to replicate the custom cape material.

I know my local comic store owner has a Spiderman costume that has a patterned lycra that's sort of embossed. Perhaps finding/making a fabric like that may be a bit more cost-effective if the custom fabric turns out to be a bit more expensive than expected.

Lol, I was wondering if anyone else was thinking that. I'd say they're a really dark blue colour. I thought it was just my wonky eyesight, but the zips are black and a different colour to the leather.

Agreed.... I took a sample of the gloves in photo shop and they come back as black, but the boots are close in color to the suit

Thanks for your input.
