Black Widow Gun Belt, Iron Man 2

hmmm... but isn't selene from the underworld wore black? cat woman (michelle pfeiffer) wore a black cat suit too. and many others. they could have used black but texturized it to add more depth like what they did to countless all black costumes that were used in the movie.

i'm just saying. :angel

Selene's coat was actually brown, as was her corset..heavily weathered black brown leather. Because they used a blue filter on the film it all looks black.

Catwoman , her suit being shiny nulls the effect of the black shade. Also having the white stiches and seams lines broke up the all black sillouette.

Black costumes in movies are hardly ever just 'black'.

Not true. I know a guy that owns a screen used, and while the coat does tend toward the brown side of off-black, may even be brown, the corset and catsuit are without a doubt, black as black.

Black actually works just fine on film, its just not used solid often because its boring, not because the camera doesn't pick it up well. The V for Vendetta costume is a great example of black on camera. The whole thing is hard black with varying textures to break up the look with the exception of the cape; which ranged from charcoal cashmere to solid black depending on the scene being shot and the effect they were going for.

There may have been multiples as i too have seen and handled the screen used coat and corset...though these were from Evolution.
Textures and patterns are what breaks up solid black. Thats what ive been trying to say.
A solid black catsuit in a matt fabric wouldnt look as good as a black matt catsuit with dark blue texture on top..the blue giving a much cooler tone to the whole suit.

here's a thought I don't think has been mentioned...she's wearing a S.H.E.I.L.D. uniform, aren't those navy?

I would agree that it's a S.H.E.I.L.D. uniform. People are getting caught up as if this is the Black Widow costume. Is the code name Black Widow even used in the movie? I don't remember

But she is still Black Widow right? even if the code name wasn't mentioned in the movie... :angel

Yes, but that may not be her costume. If it turns out she is wearing a SHIELD costume, which I think she is, then the whole question of their choice for the Black Widow costume goes out the window

In the promo shots she does have the 'black widow' symbol on her belt.....

and its also there in the film, though the red isnt as bright -

So it could be - Black widow joins Shield...keeps elements of her original suit mixed with Shield uniform! Thats why the gauntlets are there and her symbol.

That was going to be my assumption as well. It's hard to know the direction that they were going with it, but I don't ever recall a time that BW had SHIELD patches on her own costume.

I just lucked into some sports mesh fabric with a mesh face of midnight blue and a backing of black nylon/poly lycra. It's double thickness so has that same heavy look.

I will upload photos of it in case anyone is interested. It was a whopping $NZ1/m as it is in a clearance store. I have five metres for myself (enough for two suits with care) but there was a roll of about 30. If it somehow sells I'm happy to part with mine. I bought it on a whim.

Even with posting from here it is probably going to be a great alternative to custom rubber printing ;)

Consider me interested to see what you found.

The costume I did I wasn't going for 100% screen accurate, but I think it still came out pretty good.

Your suit really came out good. Did you use a commercial pattern for the jumpsuit?

I loathe sewing stretchy stuff so am hoping there might be a good option. :p
