Never been called that before. :lol

So they sent me 6 samples and they all have pretty subtle differences. This is the one I think is closest to capturing the right look. The tiny sample at the bottom is from the BW trading card. The top larger swatch is from my contacts. The one they did for me looks considerably cleaner. The trading card piece looks quite beat up and possibly sloppily done from the get go. Is there such thing as better than screen accurate? :lol

How is the match to your card? As far as the shape of the circles and whatnot? According to mine they should be slightly more oval but it doesn't look right. Like the screening bled everywhere. The sample they created me is more how I think it should look if done properly.

on mine, the negative space is indeed oval. they placed it so the oval is longest horizontally in the card, whether that's the correct orientation. who knows. Once the material gets stretched over the wearer, it's going to distort the shape, I'd think, so circular or oval...doubt it'll make much difference in the end.

Hi, all! New to the forum, but not to costuming/prop making. I found my way here because I have decided to do a Black Widow movie costume for Halloween. Lots of good ideas here and good input! I love communities like this because everyone is so wonderful about sharing their knowledge of resources, what works, what doesn't, etc. So, I thought I would give back :)

I'm just starting out with this project. I have a VERY limited budget, so I will have to take short cuts and work with what I can obtain cheaply, while still going for a quality look. I've decided to do the Nerf dart thing for the wrist bands, like another poster did. As for the belt, I found some inch or so wide rubber weather stripping at Lowe's and glued some thin leather to the back to give it a little more stiffness, as it was quite flexible. So far, so good. I then spray painted it with a grey/black slightly metallic spray paint...it's still pretty tacky, but it was rather rainy and humid today, so I'm hoping it will dry within the next 8 hours.

I am making the gadget pouches out of 1/4 inch thick craft foam, which I will paint with the same paint I used for the belt. Hopefully this works out, otherwise it will be Plan B...

Thanks Dave. I really value your opinion. So what's your overall impression of my sample? Anything you would improve color or pattern wise?
My concern with ovals would be what orientation they should be sewn in just like you mentioned. So I think circles eliminate that and it still looks right.

Anyone know how accurate the Hot Toys figure is as far as bodysuit pattern goes? Just looking for something to follow.

The weather stripping was a great idea for the belt thanks!! i'm doing the nerf darts too just make sure to reinforce them with a dowel or something on the inside because when I was messing around with them the lose their shape pretty quickly.

I am also doing this on a budget (I can't afford custom fabrics) so I found an extremely stretchy and durable black mesh that I'm putting over a charcoal grey spandex for the suit (i'm doing mine grey and black because I don't like the blue and black) I don't know if that helps for you for the fabric but it looks great together! i'll post a pic in the next day or so when I start sewing it.

i also posted a build on my blog for the boots and i think i did a pretty go job if i do say so myself if anyone is interested! :D

I didn't read all six pages of the thread, but her holster is a Blackhawk CQC Serpa model mounted on a scratchbuilt dropleg platform.

Jammy sod is an affectionate term lol..it means im utterly jealous of your fabric making contacts!

and that sample does look very good.
There are a few fabrics id LOVE to get replicated...how much do they charge for their service?

as long as the color matches your costume card, I think it looks great. the HT suit's style lines look pretty accurate for comparing them to stills.

btw, was looking at some hi-rez stills..the ovals went lengthwise on her suit.

Your boots look awesome! I lucked out and found a pair of wedge boots (not as wedgie as yours :)) at Walmart for $7.00. I'm going to do a bit of operating on them, and I got the parachute clips at Joann's ($3.49 a piece, yikes!)

Thanks for the tip on the Nerf darts. I had thought maybe they might be too flexible when around the wrist...dowels inside is a good idea!

For fabric, I ordered some off of ebay that another poster ordered from Fabricsupplier. It's black, and I may try what someone else suggested and put it through some navy blue dye just to try tinting it a little. If it doesn't work, it's no biggie to me, I'll work with the black.

I didn't get a chance to work on anything tonight, because I had to go help a friend. Hopefully tomorrow after work I can start operating on my boots, LOL!

Well they're not my friends and don't really do this for me as a favor. They're a big business and run me a sample hoping that I will put a sizable order in with them. It's never cheap and only becomes affordable if you can place an order to do 20 suits or more. I can't imagine being able to reach that number for this character.

How much we talking a yard on smaller orders? I would be interested

Probably $25/yard or so but I will confirm for sure. The problem is there would likely be a 100 yard minimum but I will confirm that as well.

Has anyone drawn out an accurate pattern yet? I was gonna buy one of the Hot Toys suits from eBay but it went for over $30. :unsure

simple high neck catsuit with piping running from shoulder to foot both front and back. zippered pocket (probably just zipper with no real pocket to keep smooth line) on front right thigh. Single seam down sleeve, under arm.
Kwik Sew 3052 is a good base pattern to work off, although you need to reshape the sleeve as its on the large size for many.
this is a great website on how to sew a catsuit - Somewhat Stretchy : Catsuit patterns and more

Does anyone have a line drawing of the eagle patch? I know someone was selling some really good custom ones on here a while back (or on ebay rather), but I guess they are no longer available. I want to see if I can make one or have one made.

Thanks Sakara!

Is the piping navy?

And anyone have better pics of the collar? It is obscured by her hair in most pics I have.

the piping looks to be a grey...but it could be a black and the light reflecting off the texture of the piping shows it as grey.
