Black Widow (Civil War MCU)

Hey Everyone,

This is my first time posting on the site and am very excited to be joining the community.

I have been cosplaying as Black Widow and am planning on updating my costume.
My first one was commissioned, thus does not fit perfectly, and it way too thick, not good for summer. As such I am planning on sewing my updated costume, wish me luck.

For my new suit, I would like to have it be the Civil War version. Though I seem to be facing some issues.

1. Finding good references since there are very limited pictures of Black Widow's new suit.

2. Since this is the first time sewing, anything, I don't know what places I can find or how to make patterns for the new suit.

3. What is the material?!?! As mentioned before, my current suit is VERY thick (it feels like a scuba suit) and just looking for suggestions for where to find or how to combine 2 materials to imitate the look of the new suit.

Again, thanks to everyone. If you have any and all suggestions I would really appreciate it.
:)

1. Not many reliable images yet compared to previous MCU films, just give it time. I know they have put most of the costumes on display this week so pics will pop up soon hopefully.

2. Yaya Han has a Bodysuit pattern I believe

3. The actual material was a Screen-printed stretch material that mimics the texture of other fabrics.

I just got back from the advanced screening, and really didn't anything significantly different than her last suit. (Without any light up blue accents that I saw...though maybe I just missed them) I'm sure there were slight changes, and it appeared her Stingers were different, but overall looked to be pretty true to what she's been wearing recently.

There is a good couple shots of her almost full length in the movie though. Just wait for the airport scene that's teased in the trailers and there is a moment where you can see most of her outfit.

But in a few more weeks, we'll have INFINITELY more reference.

Oh thank god the blue lights are gone.

Is there a certain site where I can find a similar material?

You will need to contact a screen-printer to get the correct texture made, as Marvel gets theirs custom-done. There's a thread about on the first or second page of this subforum about the Captain America/Black Widow textured fabric.

Yaya's body suit pattern is a great (and also on sale right now at Joanns). Kwik Sew has a great basic body suit pattern, too. Yaya's already has a lot of seaming built into it whereas the Kwik Sew is very basic and easier to add insets/seaming to without having to tweak around existing seams.

I'm not sure what the material of Nat's CA:CW suit looks like, but I know that Yaya has a mock carbon fiber fabric at Joanns or you could have a custom fabric done from Spoonflower.

Someone above mentioned the screenprinting thread and there's a great up close of the Cap fabric. If it's at all similar it might be easier to tweak that and get it custom printed?

Congratulations on your first post, I'm sure you'll find lots of great help here.

1. I think shortly after the movie's release, Black Widow's suit will be on display so hopefully we'll get some more nice shots.

3. It's a combination of multiple materials, possibly leather with stretch/spandex panels.

I have a thread here that talks about the texture seen on the BW suit from Age of Ultron

I can't for the life of me remember where I read it now, but in an interview with the costume designer, I believe they mentioned that the majority of the costume is made from stretch cordura.

There's the high-rez promo art from before

Other than that, best reference right now is the Hot Toys figure just revealed in HK. Video below shows 360 of the figure's costume.

Excellent shots of the new Widow's Bites - I like the new design. I would definitely 3D-print (and add the LEDs), if I wanted to make them for myself, but I still think foam would work well too.
