Black Series Darth Vader Helmet Mod Thread!

Thanks. Definitely think if I put a bigger dome on the face mask part to display with it will look better.

Dome - to me - is less of an issue since it is the face mask and collar that is unique to this. My problem is that, as usual, the more I study the original, the more I realize how toy-like this really is.

It is too small in height, and in front-to-back length, though the face is too wide and the triangle mouth is too big. The molded-in detail is not great, especially the linkages and dental expanders. and the interior detail is significantly simplified, reduced in both size and detail.

A LOT of work will be required to make this just "OK"...

Your right...to bring this near screenaccurate is impossible in my eyes, because 99% of the details are wrong size or/and wrong shape.
Its only a "comiclike" version of the Vader Reveal helmet.

I don't know why so many people are complaining about this helmet. I always assumed most of us already had a screen accurate helmet and we're just getting these as a starter for an interior display (that's why I bought it). I have my screen accurate one on display and the BS helmet is displayed with the face facing the wall. The dome just went back in the box.

Because some us us need to be accuracy snobs ;)

Well, I've been working away on my Vader! This was the perfect helmet to make a deconstructed display piece from. Gave me more peace about cutting into it and modifying for display.

Since it has some major sculpt inaccuracies, I decided not to go nuts trying to be 100% accurate. It's getting closer. Here are a few highlights.

- Airbrushed the two-tone paint, which was quick and simple.
- Decided to tint the lenses, I love that ruby look.
- All parts of the helmet are removable from the stand, and pressure fit into place.
- Base is wired with multi color LEDs and a remote control.

I still need to paint the inside of the nose, finish the interior detailing, etc.

Here's where the display is so far:

Wow... Just wow. Wish I had the means to do this because that is utterly incredible. Can't believe how good these Black Series helmets are as a base.

Wow..that's simply incredible. Quite possibly the best BS helmet base setup I've seen. The inaccuracies really are hidden if you separate them like this, very very nice.

Wow dmpsk8 you did great! and are you going to do anything with the dome and neck and possibly the inside of the helmet. Also you could maybe do something to give that left cheek a curve.

I do plan to do the inside of the helmet, but I don’t plan to fool with the neck or dome. I think the dome is totally livable in an exploded view.

Left cheek curve is not a bad idea though!
