Hmmm.....that is a possibility I guess....wonder why they would do that and keep the real labels on every other food item though...Like the Nestle Crunch bar, Cheezits, etc. The Mystery builds!!

Is it bad that when I saw the thumbnail, too tiny to read the label, I immediately thought of DeKuyper's?

If I understand the legal parts, they have to have permission, even though it amounts to free advertising. DeKuyper's may not have permitted them to use their product.

A similar thing happened with E.T when M&M/Mars wouldn't let Spielberg use M&Ms as the candy that E.T. liked, so they went with then little known Reese's Pieces.

The rest, history, etc.

Hmmm, fun little puzzle.
Is there any other shots of the lable?? Maybe it was a real company that went out of buisness. Some generic NY liquor. Although it could be any bottle seeing how it was most likely filled with tea/coffee/coke or some other non-booze for filming. In those two pics the bottle (and this could be because its a small screen shot) the bottle looks like it tapers up at the neck a little different then the bottle pictured...

It looks like some sort of Schnapps bottle. I think your on the right path. But the bottle you have pictured looks like it is plastic.
Plus the bottle in the movie looks like it has a hump at the top of the bottle/bottom of the neck.

In that picture, i would almost say that it is a legit Liquor bottle. The lable looks like legit. All legality stuff aside, i don't see them making a liquor bottle label for a minute of screen time, when they could just grab a bottle off the shelf. I'm leaning towards the brown bottle of Dr. Mcgillicuddy's...or some hip flask type bottle of whiskey.

Pretty sure its a bottle of "Hot Damn". I drink that stuff all the time although I think that the labels have changed now days.

Sure looks like Danny is deliberately proffering the label towards the camera. He's not palming the label side to hide it, or tipping it flat the way anyone might grab a flask.

Has anyone thought to check the film credits for sponsored products or special thanks to see if there are any liquors mentioned?

In talking to some "more experienced" buddies in the world of 1980's liquor drinking, i have about three votes for "Harpers" (never heard of it..) whiskey, 2 votes for Seagrams (The red and yellow label colors) or some type of Canadian Whiskey.
I like the idea of checking the credits...might have to do that when i get home...

Dan might be palming the front, but that shot from the 1st post is a real clear one of the front of the bottle.

I checked out the scene on my Bluray disc and I think the bottle is "Apricot flavored Brandy". Unfortunately I can't read the brand name, the picture is too grainy....

Based on the above information, I found that there is a company called "Phillips" that produces an Apricot Brandy. They are also a company that was around in 83-84, and still around today. It looks like the unique type of bottle is still used by the company, however the label changed (similar color scheme tho). I could not dig up any vintage pics of the label so i put a call into Phillips and spoke with a nice rep named Lyndsey who will be sending me some pictures of thier 1980's era bottles....

We will see what happens. nice Blue Ray snag by the way!

I think this is the one,
This looks almost like the label, Its from a 70s ad and it could have been changed a little bit during 10 years.

Soooooo, the CEO of Phillips emailed me back with a picture of the 1980's label and a confirmation that Phillips Apricot Brandy....is NOT the liquor in the screen caps.

The search continues. Kinda cool that a company CEO was cool enough to email me back!
