Bill Murray Signs On For Two More Ghostbusters

Groundhog Day was superior, so maybe he needs Murray to excel.

Akroyd is a creative nuclear bomb, but he actually believes some of that stuff. That force has to be managed. It was managed originally on the first film by limitations of FX, now I would be worried he would go nuts.

You may have a point there - Ackroyd + the limitless possibilities of CGI, I'll bet that combination may come up with something that could make even Lucas's eyes bleed.

I think it will be made regardless. Also the fact that Bill talked about it in some other interviews stating that he would do it if he likes the story, and I think he is just downplaying about reading it as I said. I seen all the interviews about it also. It would make sense to do another now as all of those guys are at the tail-end of their careers and could use a boost in popularity again. Not to mention all the money it would make and how happy the older fans would be who grew up with it, such as myself. I never cared for Bill's self-righteous attitude though. It would be great if he did it again with passion, but if he wants to be an idiot about it I would not care too much if they replaced him. But he shouldn't turn his back on something that played a huge role in his personal success. The others have a way better attitude about it all.

If I see something a little more official ie. Dan Akroyd going "Holy ****! Bill actually signed on! We're doing this baby!"

Then I'll start getting excited.

Have you guys seen any of Murray's latest movies? He just seems SO DEPRESSED. I know it's always been kinda his style but never this extreme. Ghostbusters is not going to be the same as it was in the 80's :thumbsdown

Nothing is ever going to be the same as it was in the 80's. Hollywood, man, if they're not trying to remake it they're trying to make sequels.

I just read through this thread and unless I missed something, I can't believe no one has pointed it out. This story was an April Fool's joke released my Moviephone on April 1st of this year. Murray hasn't officially signed on for GB3.

UGH. I was excited!!!

Kinda like this:

Didn't we deal with that earlier in the thread? I thought this was more a discussion about whether doing sequels would be good or bad?

I have noticed lots of GB related branded stuff at the mall, at Spensers.
They have candy, mugs, belt buckles, patches, etc.
With the game out, I think they are gearing up for public awareness for the sequel.
Bill Murray was on Howard Stern a month or two ago talking about it.
I hear he is coming back as a GHOST?
That will be funny.
I also heard Dan Akyroyd say that all the props and cars will be different... that might be cool or it might suck....we will see!!!

i seem to remember murray also commented on an interview he would only do a gb3 if they kill him off

Bill said in interviews that he would do it if he liked the story. I also did not find any official information that is was an April Fool's joke, I think that is just speculation since that is when the news came out. But Bill also does not "mean anything" by his appearance at the Scream Awards. Yeah, sure you didn't Bill. ;)

Bill also said he felt obligated to do it, "maybe I should just do this thing" since the fans were so devoted. I also liked G2 as well, and sequal is tough to pull off if the first movie was a huge success. I think he just became very jaded over the years and unappreciative of all he has. As stated already the rest of the cast had no issues wanting to do it.

How do you know? No one knows for sure. There is no reason to take down the thread as it was news reported and you can't verify that it is true or false.

Everywhere I've looked states that Dan Aykroyd has been in discussions with Bill Murray and has come up with a script which Bill likes and is happy to do. Hell, even IMDB has a listing for Ghostbusters 3. So, as far as I'm concerned, there is at least an element of truth to the media hype.

The last thing actually reported about any of this was by Bill himself, on Howard Stern. He said that he's had the script for months, hasn't read it, feels a bit badly about it. He said he "really should" read it, and that he owes Ivan a call. Far cry from being signed on for two more films.
