I coulda sworn there was a thread about this already and I commented in it. Oh, well. I'll post what I said last time because I can't talk highly about this movie enough.
I absolutely adored this movie going into it cold when I saw it last month. Long takes with pinpoint,laser-precision camera movement, constantly reframing, restaging, and reblocking effortlessly from one moment to the other; no dialogue whatsoever and it's clear and concise in vision and execution. I left this movie elated and elevated seeing it; it was as close to a "pure cinema" event I've come across in recent memory.
The fact that this was made with a small team using Blender, of all things, and rendered in real time is impressive. Truly impressive. I wish the US had a nation-wide arts grants to fund endeavors like this as Europe does, but I'm glad that it exists there because this movie needed to exist. I hate that idea that animation is "for kids" and is often treated that way in the West, often pandering and condescending to the audience. This doesn't do any of that and is something for everyone to see.
Will definitely be picking up the Criterion Collection release of this when it drops on physical, for sure.
