Big Red Bio design

Hello fellow fans,

I just received a P1 helmet that I am looking at painting in the Big Red paint scheme.I have been studying the paint up done by Sandy Collara(sorry for spelling),and have found a question.Are the main designs actually engraved into the helmet?
