Big 3D printed Wipeout Feiser ship

So ever since the first wipeout game came out back in ‘96 I wanted to have a model of one of the ships.
And after a few failed attempts from kit bashing to wood carving to even trying aluminum sheeting it never seemed right.
But now with this new tech I can finally do it proper.
I went with the Feisar ship because it’s the one that hasn’t really changed as drastically through the years and really says Wipeout.
So a friend of mine is doing the printing and I’m doing the build and paint.
This isn’t going to be a fast build but I will try and update as often as things happen.

That’s AWESOME !! How big is it? I love the stand also.

It's exactly 12" long. I estimate it to be 1/43 scale.

This is why i love 3d printing! Yes theres a lot of post processing, and finishing of parts, but it still gives a great basis to build from.

I have no way to 3D print anything, so I have to build it all the old way....which I like doing.
This is turning out really good. Feisar for life.

Still sanding and smoothing. I should get the cockpit later today and because of the file he had it’s going to take a lot of work to make the canopy but should be fun doing the cockpit details.

So received a few more pieces from the guy that’s doing the printing part. Oh boy ,not pretty! He said they were bad files. But I’m going to try and fix the issues. Hand sculpting bondo... fingers crossed. This might take some time lol

I do a lot of 3d printing (currently printing a 1m long Omega class destroyer), and files can have problems, but that looks more like the complexity of the part and its print orientation. Basically with lots of overhangs, the printer needs to add support material, which can be a pain in the ***** to remove, and can result in messy surfaces.
If i have a part like that, i tend to break it down into sub components so i get the best result for each part.

After some bondo sculpting. I had to prime these pices so I could actually see what more I need to smooth out. But compared to how I received them I’m happy with the damage control so far

Well I got the air breaks mounted and lined up. Still sanding and smoothing lol. It’s getting closer.

Well I’m going to try and figure out the cockpit. I lucked out but having a spare pilot from a A-wing kit I got a while back that I never used. But I think it fits perfectly with this both size and style. But the hard part is going to be making the canopy as I’ve never made a clear canopy before. Fingers crossed

I have the plastic to do the canopy and figured out the geometry for it. Although don’t know if I should try and do a single piece and fold it or try and glue the panels together. I foresee a messy situation if i try to glue it. I would love a vacuform one but I don’t see myself making all that. Any suggestions or tips??

Are you going with a color for the canopy?
Mine was a greenish yellow color and I used a section for a folder to separate pages. I cut it into pieces and carefully glued those on the frames.
I do believe there is a glue for windows that won't show when dry, but not sure what it is. Superglue will make the area have a frosted look if it gets on it. I still went with superglue and had to be super careful.

I’ve got clear plastic but might try and find a blue tent plastic. If there is a glue that doesn’t frost the plastic that would be amazing.. I’ll look into it thanks.

I use Testors Clear Parts Cement & window maker # 3515, or clear gloss acrylic paint... neither fogs

Well another test fitting. Making sure the parts go together smoothly. Had to cut a ton off the top engine to get it to fit right. And cut the farthest back spoiler to accommodate said engine. And now looking at the pilot I’m thinking he might be a tad small..hmmmm. I might roll with it.but, hopefully I come across a figure that would fit better by the time I get the rest done. So for now I’ll just leave him out.

Hes a bit small, but those are suppose to be pretty big ships. Like 2 or 3 car lengths at least. Not sure if there is an official size for them or not.
Speaking of size, how big is your ship, in inches?
Mine is 8 inches.
