Best Movie Soundtrack

No Star Wars?
No Indiana Jones?
No 2001: A Space Odyssey?
No ET?
No Jaws?
No The Dark Knight?

And I thought you all loved film.

Blade Runner
Most Ennio Morricone soundtracks, but most especially The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Manhunter

I may get ripped for this one, but I really enjoyed a few of the tracks on Scott Pilgrim. Overall I think it had a mediocre soundtrack, but I really enjoyed "Threshold" and "It's getting boring by the sea".

Ahem. I believe I did mention most of those, even if only indirectly. Indiana Jones, Jaws, ET, and Star Wars all have the composer in common.

If I remember, 2001 has predominately classical music set into the background, not original work for the movie. Granted, the music was quite good, and fit the movie quite well.

As for TDK, I would have to rewatch the movie as I can't remember, nor do I always pay attention to the music the first time I watch a movie.

Hi, how about Dune?

Which version? The early version was okay, and the later version was a bit better.

How about The Warriors (1979), score by Barry Da Vorzon?

Yeah, that was a good score. Kinda made up for some of the movie's shortfalls. Pretty good movie for the time too.

well I think it depends on how you read his original post/question.

They are asking about Soundtracks, not scores, and he specifically mentioned this : "Preferably with songs that have been around for awhile and weren't memorable till you saw it in a movie"

So that would mean to me a soundtrack with lyrical content versus just a score.

Most of the iconic movies you mentioned are scores so I wouldnt have answered with here but a few would be on my scores list.

Danger Zone, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, and Take My Breath Away fromTopgun would be on my Sountrack list. Unchained Melody too, St Elmos Fire... probably a few others if I thought about it. Couple songs from Batman in the 90s. Blergh, pulling a blank cause its 130 am lol

You hit the nail on the head with that, but I'll take scores like "Ecstasy of Gold" anyways cause they're just epic!

Well, in the film business, the "soundtrack" is basically the mix of everything from dialogue to special effects and music combined to create everything you hear in the film. I don't know where the music industry got the idea to refer to their compilations of music featured in films and scores as "soundtracks", when music is only a piece of what the film industry considers a soundtrack.

So, basically, original musical scores count as soundtracks just as much as "songs featured and inspired by the original motion picture" are.

Whoopsie.
Yeah, no you're right. Still, I did say if indirectly. I have heard some of the soundtracks too, and again, very nice. Most movie/game music I tend to listen to is the type that you can either exercise to, or if you have a job like mine, where you're doing a lot of cutting, then work to as well. And I still stand by my previous post. Don't read too much into the game music part either. Another can of worms best left unopened for now, methinks.

Back to the future - Huey Lewis, power of love, back in time. You got Johnny B Goode as well, and earth angel.

BTTF. Superman is also excellent.

Not a single Saturday Night Fever? C'mon??

The one I can't live without, is EMPIRE RECORDS. I listen at least once a week. Go buy it now.....
