Interest Beskar Ingot made out of Damascus - Anyone interested?

I have to admit that I’m quite confused about what Damascus really means since many people are throwing this term around. Is it a metal, is it a process, is it a pattern? IDK but I pulled up the trusty wiki to shed some light.

So in light of this, hydin, can you comment what yours will be? Also, I’ve heard in other discussions that the real deal could be north of $300 for something of this size. Any thoughts?

Damascus steel is incredibly difficult to shape any object in any way shape or form let alone a specific pattern,,,,it is a combination of strong steels combined which are forged, mashed, hammered and even machined and shaped...

It is a metal predominantly used with swords or knives.

Personally i would use scrap metal for a beskar block type prop like members are already on top of,, ageing /colouring and weathering comes after:)

Good cold working scrap metals like aluminium/bronze or cartridge brass would be my choice if i was making this prop, a mold for the rear and a custom stamp that can be hammered onto the front...... unique patterns can also be accomplished on the top of the bar by the person pouring the metal...

There is also an option of plating your finished item......has anyone looked into a dark pearl nickel finish?

I would be interested in 2 or 3 probably, depending what they look like, and final price of course.

Interested.
I’ve seen a few Beskar Steel ingots on Etsy, but the wave pattern in the steel varies greatly, and a lot of them stink. So whether I buy depends greatly on that. Thanks.

The wiki explains damascus better than I could. Basically what I have is options of various grades of steel, and one of the options for some of the grades is a damascus finish (wavy pattern). It's not some super folded expertly hammered using only the finest grades of steel because as you know, that would be incredibly expensive and completely pointless on this sort of item.

I'm not going to the plating route like the other members, because frankly it's a pain in the ass to get right and it would add greatly to the cost. I'm guessing that's why the other runs I have seen are more expensive, cause honestly there is a LOT more work involved in it and labor costs money.

We are going to cnc out the grooves in the back, and either stamp or acid etch the front. Not bashing anyone in particular, not trying to cast any shade on anyone. Just simply stating a fact. I'm going the "easy" route where other people are going the intricate route. Grab whichever you want to own, I just want some for my shelf and figure other people might want in on it.

Pics should be coming soon. Got sidetracked on another project and a post christmas issue or two.

Thanks!
Chris

Hey

Haven't forgotten about this, just been tied up with some other stuff. The foundry we were going to use out of germany ended up closing down due to illness, so we are just shopping around at the moment. As soon as we get a new place to buy the steel from, we will get some prototypes made.

Sorry for the delay in updates, just been swamped with other stuff at the moment.

Thanks guys!
Chris
