Beretta M12 blaster from the Mandalorian gun locker - Front barrel parts source?

Hello RPF!

I've found a full metal airsoft Beretta M12 to use as the base for my build, and am now wondering about the barrel assembly on the blaster.
Do you think it's a scratch built thing, or made from found parts? The floating heat shield thing on top makes me think the latter is the case.

My first reaction upon seeing your first screen shot was of a collapsible telescope/spyglass painted black; but I'm less confident of that when I look at the second screen shot.

I think "something" telescoping, might be a place to start looking though.
The heat shield type thing also puzzles me.

Looking at the 2nd screen shot the end of the floating heat shield reminds me of the emitter from yoda’s saber - could be part from inside a flash handle

I guess that's possible.
I would feel bad chopping one up for a blaster like this though hahaha
