Been thinking of doing an Anime Sherlock Holmes.

This has been played from so many angles depending on the author/director. If Holmes didn't exist, Lestrade would be considered a great detective on his own merit. In some productions, he has no covetousness toward the honor but in many he shows second chair envy. Not intending to influence but I love the non competition version who honors Holmes as friend and colleague. There can always be conflict even in that but in so many shows they play it like he wants to dismiss Holmes and that is just not how the original was written, but that is relying on my memory of it.

Yes, many times, Holmes gave Lestrade credit for the cases that he solved for The Yard. Lestrade respected Holmes, and while Holmes thought that the Yarder’s were imbeciles, he grew to respect Lestrade. The canon describes Lestrade as having a ‘rat like’ face, which I tried to subtly honor.

I think I've seen Sherlock Holmes as a guest character in an anime or two. In my impression he always had some likeness to Jeremy Brett — who played Sherlock Holmes on TV in my childhood.

I have strong memories of the different Holmes throughout the years but ever since Cumberbatch, I can't see holmes without distinct Cumberbatch included. He just really nailed the character but my opinion, of course.
