Becoming The Winter Soldier -- Winter Soldier Build Thread!

I would put the Jiu-Jitsu classes on hold for the time being, that is going to mess up your ankle even more. Lift weights for the upper body, that way you're not totally out of commission till your ankle heals. I'd hate to see you out longer due to more damage from a martial art. Best of luck to you and heal fast:)

:) Thanks Judge I really appreciate it. Yeah my Chiropractor definitely agreed with me on seeing the orthopedist, and when I asked her if I should slow down on the weight lifting she said yes. I have some small curling weights I can use so I'll just focus on that for right now, I reaaallyy hope this ankle heals up fast I need to start using my new kettle weight and get back into it with my curl bar.

Hello! A few things I've found that may help you:

Knee pads-- got mine at Lowes in the tool section. 4 bucks. Not movie perfect but pretty darn close. Just missing the vertical grooves that WS has.

Face mask: Amazon, neoprene half mask and I added black craft foam for the face plate and cheek pieces. Not bad for breathing really. I also sewed it to make more a nose bridge and cut the cheek line sharper. I saw somewhere on the Internet a lady made a face plate from worbla and a foam head and sewed it onto a ski mask. May work for you?

Airsoft guns: Amazon. I got my snub machine gun on WS back from Amazon. It was about 10 bucks. I am not as religious about this costume to study the firearms on the set photos, so as long as they look close enough to the photo, that's fine with me. But check Amazon. I also got a rubber knife there for cheap, and a holster for my hip.

On your arm build, if your work out (good for you!) or genetics are not on your side, use a thin layer of bubble wrap over your arm before you model it. It will "bulk" you up.

Tactical pants I got at Cabelas and dyed them (and I need to re-dye mine) darker black. As a woman, I have issues with the hips/waist on mens pants (duh). They don't make any GOOD women's tactical pants that don't cost a small fortune. So I pull my belt tight to keep my pants up! :)

Hope that helps... good luck!

Hey guys! So I got good news (also Hi kcail! :D Thanks for the info and thank you so much, I love that jacket so much, it's literally my favorite jacket ever it's so great.)

Soooo I went to see my orthopedist about my ankle, turns out it's just a common problem. I have a lateral tear down the middle of my tendon due to inflammation. It's lovely lol. But he's got me doing exercises to strengthen up my ankles and it's going to be 9 weeks total till I can get back to my BJJ classes. >.<

However! I am only not allowed to do things that would require me to plant my foot and put a lot of pressure on it, etc. In other words, I can't lift my weights yet. Once I get past a certain point I should be able to, I'll talk to the doc about that. I'm gonna get into a habit of at least using my small weights so I can at least work my arms while I wait for this to heal up.

Anyways! I am presently working on my mask. I got a neoprene half mask from Dick's Sporting Goods and while I was hunting down nylon, the closest I could actually find was duck canvas. I got it in the black and the light grey which work pretty well, I'm going to put those on first and make sure to poke in the proper holes cause I'd like to breathe in this! XD

So right now I'm working on the fabric and getting that on, and then I have to actually find black pleather to use for the leather bits. Because while having the hard leather would be great right about now, a) I don't really want to mess with it right at this minute and b) I'd REALLY like to breathe!

Still haven't gotten my tac pants yet, I know exactly where to go and get them. Local Army Navy shop has black tacticals. We actually got a pair for my ex boyfriend when we took a trip there the one weekend. So that's simple enough to get, just have to find time to get down there. I have the boots bookmarked on Amazon somewhere on one of the computers around here so that's only a matter of time before I get those.

I honestly could've sworn I had pictures on here of the stuff I had so far. Buuuut I guess not. No worries! Lemme just quick post 'em so everyone can see. (Minus the gloves of course cause they're up there x3)

For right now, this is what I got:

Knee pads I picked up at Home Depot, and also my Heatgun I found (Thank God I thought I'd never get around to getting one)

And here's the mask with the fabric that is going to go on it! I obviously bought way more than I needed but ya know... just in case I screw up I have extra ^^;;

I'll post more progress pics on the mask soon as I get it going! :D

Alright! Phase one of the mask is complete!

And here are the progress pictures I have for you guys!

Started with a template out of one of the pieces of grey canvas and used that to cut out my pieces I needed. (Template was just freehanded and I used some reference images as I was drawing it out)

After that was cut out, I got the pieces sewn on very carefully. Here's the first side of the mask, about half way done. I got the black panel sewn on and I had just pinned the grey one on before taking my dinner break.

And finally! Once I got through the pain and torture of both sides. (the first cutting of the pieces which I have pictured up above, didn't work out so I had to redo the cutting and use that on the first side. Second side went much better.)

Ta Da!!! Phase one of the mask is complete! I know it looks kind of light, honestly the lighting isn't the best and the canvas is the lighter/brighter grey. Now all I need to do is to get the pleather and put that on in the places left and I'll be finished! The only problem with this is that I attempted to do seams and it just didn't come out properly, I mean it was just junk so I decided to just forego the seams and just sew it directly on. I like how it looks except for the fraying but that's not a huge issue.

I bought my ski mask from Amazon and used craft foam for the face pieces (hot glued on the cheek pieces) and then sewed the craft foam on the mouth area. Make sure you account for a nose bridge of foam inside to soften it across your nose. It makes a difference!

Glad your ankle not broken! Build on!

Hey all!

I think this might be my first post to the RPF... I'm absolutely blown away by this thread--you guys all have stunning work! Winter Soldier is going to be my first cosplay ever, so I'm hoping it turns out okay. All I have so far is a tape template of my left arm, haha. I'll post a pic soon!
