The start of the puppet hands for Baymax. My arms are so short and I am so not 6' 3' I have to make mods to myself so the costume will work on me. I'm only 5'5' so I am thinking about mounting the head on a rig above my head. So I will not be able to see. I thought about using an Eye Clops and using the camera part in the head and using the goggles to see. Or making 11" lifts to make me taller. but I will still need the longer arms.

So I was talking to one of the guys I work with and he was afraid if I made lifts it might not be safe to walk up or down stairs, out doors and other places. So I started on a rig for the head.

Looking great. I've found myself thinking a LOT about how to make this suit. After seeing the video at the premiere I thought about it more. Keep it up, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Okay I ran into an issue about my build, aka my height. I am just too short, I made a rough scale of myself and Baymax and my shoulders are just too low. I started the cool neck and head unit and now I am not going to use it. I started a set of stilts at work the other day.

Here is the scale pic.

I got a pair of crutches from Goodwill for $5 US and started cutting them down.

The base is 1/4 ABS plastic at 7" across, there is another 1/2 that will be glued to it to make the base plate nice and strong, total of 3/4" thick.

The stilts I am making are like painters stilts that will have springs and will move a little more natural. The long curved part will strap to my leg just under my knee.

I am still going to mount a 1/2" foot plate on the top part of tube u channel. I still have the 2nd leg to finish. I didn't want to do the stilts but it is what will make the costume as a whole work for me.

Almost have the second leg done. I thought about making a second set that are more simple in construction. I will draw it up tonight and see what everyone thinks. Cheers for now.

Here is the sample of what I was thinking. I am thinking about making the 2nd set just to see what feels the best way to go.

Looking good!

This actually reminds me a lot of how Carol Spinney fit inside his Big Bird costume.

Are the base of those stilts laser cut?

No laser here, I just use my calipers and score the plastic then use a band saw to cut out the disk then fine sand the edge with a 120 grit sanding disk on a die grinder .
I have to see the Big Bird thing so google here I come.

Looking good. Be sure to have someone with you when you wear those stilts.

Has anyone done some height comparisons on frames from the movie? How tall is Baymax without his armor? A fan wiki says he's 6.25' tall, but I don't know where they got that number.

I had an idea of using the inflatable suit fan as well, but my idea differed to using Parachute fabric.

Sorry guys I haven't posted anything. We had to get through Christmas and had a guy ask me to restore the fenders on a 1955 Chevy 2 door post. It's a paying job so had to put a pause on Baymax. I should be starting back on him in the next week.

No worries. Projects like this often go in spurts! I'm hoping you finish up the costume, it's looking cool.
