I've been watching RPF for a while and finally made registration. In my limited time, I recently completed a light panel which I'm sure you BSG fans will recognize. All custom with the exception of the actual light box.

Ok - first newb question. How do I include pics in the actual message and not attachments?

The only way I know how is to use an image host like Photobucket (which also gives you the codes for linking the picture to an HTML page or a forum like this one).

That's a great looking panel. I'm surprised you haven't listed the materials you used to make this possible. You said that everything except the light box was customized? Well, it looks like the real thing to me. I'd bet that the set designers and constructor would be proud if they saw this. Again, great job.

Thanks for the info on the graphics...

Materials used were flat black vinyl (then cut out areas for buttons), various BSG fonts, laser printed words on clear adhesive, various colored translucent film, custom clear acrylic "buttons", thick 2-sided tape, and black silicone for weathering.

I made enough buttons to make several in order to make more (for sale) but the cost is prohibitive given my time. It would be at least $250-300.

But I'm very willing to provide my templates and "lessons learned" for anyone who wishes to make something similar.

How did you go about making the buttons?

There are 3 styles of buttons on this panel - all cast from an original. I learned the hard way that casting and pouring are very difficult and time consuming but they sure make it look easy on youtube!

I'll be turning to the RPF the next time I need some components created - especially clear items.
