Battlestar Galactica original helmet crest

I made a posting on an other site sometime back. Someone (unnamed) sent me a message. He was telling me about how he used to go dumpster diving as a kid at a certain property. This was in the early production days of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica. He told me of the way cool things he pulled from the trash. All of it very interesting, and I wouldn't mind having any of it at all. I guess back then if it didn't pass the mustard, the prop builders just tossed, and so he collected it. Well one of the things me mentioned he picked up was a snaked helmet crest. I sent him a link of this photo, and bingo, he said that was it, and he still has it. He was going to dig it up. I thought it was cool that the original Viper helmet crest, was that a Viper (snake)

The Pegasus pilots had different crests too, right? Each Battlestar had its own iconography....

By the Lords of Kobol, that's a big crest. :lol

Move your head too fast and that would crash right through the cockpit canopy. :rolleyes

Yes they did. Originally, the production was going to have a different helmet crest for each Battlestar. As well as different shoulder patches.

The Viper crest that Gold Cylon has pictured here was going to be for the Main characters helmets, until it was rejected.....then it was going to be used for the Atlantia pilots.... until time and money constraints put it in the "dumpster" all together.

The Pegasus Flying Horse crest that is pictured here has a roundel behind it...which it did not have in the show. And it was a little smaller on the show as well. But it does look good any way.

I have carried this idea of different crests over to my helmets that I'm building.... (G80 helmets...but they still look pretty good)..... The crest that I've made is of a Hawk and done in the same style as the Galactica's Eagle crests.
Here are a couple of pics of the sculpt I did. I am still working on the castings.

Daggit-gone-it, Dale!! WHY don't you mention these things???

If this guy still has the original, I'd be most happy to make a mold...

which anybody who knows me will tell you... I don't do that for just anything.

Hmmm... something I didn't notice before in that pic... you see they used a thin vac-form over the top of the helmet to sculpt on? That's pretty smart. They can just lift it off for molding.

I hope I have the chance to get to that level of talking with Mr UnNamed when he digs it up. It is on his to do list of things for me.
BTW this to do list wasn't my idea, he mentioned this to me, so I said sure, lets see this stuff. I am waiting here like everyone else, hope it turns out positive.

This is a great honor to have you offer this, since it is a limited supply offering so I will agree to that up front, when this becomes available.
On an other note, your package should arrive today, so enjoy the gift. :cool

Well, when it happens, it happens.

Otherwise, I might just be tempted to replicate that thing myself if it takes a looooooong time. Of course, with the plate-ful of stuff I have to do already, your Mr. Unnamed might produce before I do! LOL!!

Oh, and you bet I'm waiting. Can't wait to see the stuff! I love getting packages!

Yeah I think we all have a full plate, so holding my breath might be a waste of good air.....LoL
I just tracked the package, it out for delivery now.

At this point, Ywingfighter, its a possibility but not a certainty. Unless someone out there wants to beat me to the punch. And really, honestly, truthfully, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they did! LOL!!

At the end of the year like this, my schedule is so full of stuff to do that I get nearly overwhelmed with the desire to build but just can't seem to accomplish anything. Of course, I'm sure we all feel that way with holiday and family commitments and such.

I'm an obsessive-compulsive builder. Really. No kidding. If I'm not working on something I feel lost. Usually if I'm not working on several things simultaneously I don't feel like I'm mentally healthy. But with "real life" getting in the way, I get really frustrated around the holidays cuz I just can't make enough time to get anything finished. But this is probably a common thing among the folks here.

That's why I was so happy to get my Steam Punk pistols finished the other day. Only the thrill didn't last for long because I was immediately onto another project. It never ends!
