Battlefield 3 beta

From what I've heard, it's the map that makes this feel like COD or MOH. I was watching one video that said as much, and the same guy later played on Caspian Border and said it felt like "proper Battlefield" again. I think it just doesn't work that well on small, enclosed maps.

I've got the beta, but I'm working an oddball shift this week, so I haven't really had any time to play it yet, except for about twenty minutes the first night I downloaded it.

I played even more today, and it was fun. I love the weapon sounds, definitely makes me feel like i'm in a firefight. I'm still on the fence about picking this up on the first day but we'll see how i'm feeling.

Got my C9 with gangster grip, EOTECH, and extended magazine and was slaughtering dudes. It was great.

playing it on PS3 but I haven't been blown away with it yet. I really hate sniper maps and it seems the only time I can get points is when I snipe. I hope they release the MW3 demo so I can try that too.

Been playing some more and now the newness has wore off and I am meh. I understand it is a beta so no biggie plus I am too busy playing RO2

Treat it like a real combat situation, take cover, lot's of cover, when you fire fire in short round bursts to increase accuracy. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and stick with your team. Find an area and hold it down, make sure all the entrances are covered. It also helps finding a class you like and stick with it. I prefer assault so I can heal myself when I get hit.

So far this is my favorite Battlefield yet. They added a lot of nice features that reinvented the BF gameplay such as diving, wall jumping, suppression, etc. If you are playing on the Xbox then the graphics have been dumbed down. It's to be expected. Honestly, the game plays nothing like CoD or MoH; it may just be your perception of the map. Obviously Battlefield's big claim to fame is the vehicle system which will be seen in the other much larger maps. Although I do like Operation Metro once you enter the subway. It really forces you to use your cover and teamwork.

As every Battlefield game, if you don't play it like a real war situation and just run around gunning like CoD, you won't have fun.

SOLUTION TO GET INTO SERVERS ON PC

nono, you all have a windows failure, just rename the é to an e in the map title.
Windows can't read the é.

It worked for me :p Now I can get into servers!!!!!

I got it, its ok, multiplayer is too much like COD for me so far but i'm looking forward to the single player mission when the game comes out. PedroAloha on PS3 if anyone fancies getting in a squad

Finally got a chance to try this out. Eh. I'm not that impressed. I think I had more fun blowing up stuff with grenades and seeing trees, etc. fall over than anything. Maybe I'll have to try COD after all...:(

I spent yesterday evening running the beta through it's paces on the 360 and while I do enjoy the battlefield series I wasn't able to make the transition in the previous titles and this edition is the same.

There is nothing inherently wrong about the mechanics or design of the title but there has always been a clear and distinct difference between this franchise and the Call of Duty series, while there is a authentic sense of realism and thought into the way weaponry and skill progression are determined it doesn't capture than frenetic pickup and play arcade atmosphere I've grown so accustom with the COD games.

Regardless of the gameplay I'll likely be picking up this along with MW3 since most of my friends are because what I really value in these games is the live chatter and company, that has always been the real selling point for me.

Also remember that this is an old build of the game. 90% of the glitches, graphical issues, and gameplay errors have been corrected for quite a while now in the final release build. This beta is only to test the online connectivity.

I really love this series so I'm hoping they get all the bugs squashed. Can't wait to get into some dog fights!

Things I like:

- The progression actually seems fairly fast if you play consistently. 200 just for playing a rush round is cool because it means you won't always be stuck with crap gear even if you suck at first. The customization is fun, too, and seems to have increased from BFBC2.

- Graphics are nice when they aren't giving me weird popping flashes on the screen for no reason. I'm not talking, like, someone shooting at you. I mean you're just wandering around and the screen flashes. Weird. I may need to update my drivers, though.

- Guns feel...mostly lethal. Although I've really only used a few and they're the crap newbie guns.

- Proning. It's back! Yay! Hopefully dolphin diving does NOT make a return.

What I don't like:

- I have no idea where the hell I'm going on the map, and apparently everyone can see me but I can't see any of them. I die a LOT in this game and it's frustrating. Spawning on squadmates can be helpful but is usually the fastest way to die because they're clueless too, apparently.

- Aim on the guns seems...off. Without much spread, even burst fire doesn't seem to hit a lot. Yet, of course, everyone else who's been playing this non-stop since it released has a gajillion better guns than me. Which brings me to...

- Unlocks. They suck. I HATE this trend in gaming. Space Marine had one of the best ideas, though -- keep unlocks, but let you copy the loadout of the last guy who killed you. Brilliant because it keeps the newbies from feeling constantly screwed. Of course, the BF design team has always promoted the notion of "LOLNOOBUSUCK" and "LOLBASERAPED". Which is, of course, ****ing idiotic. I know things get better because I've played other games in the series that have done pretty well with the speed of gaining unlocks, but it's really a friggin' grind at the start. Fortunately, everyone will start at zero on launch day, but these games have always been, in my opinion, brutal on newbies. A learning curve is fine, but everyone has that in a game. What sucks is a learning curve plus the other guy has more and better weapons available, while you get the popgun. Unlocks suck. They have always sucked, and they always will suck. Unfortunately, they also breed crackmonkey players, so they're likely to never disappear. Which also sucks.

- The glitches REALLY need fixing. Wallhacks galore. Or exploits. I don't know. It seems like I die a lot from random guys who shot me from impossible angles. Could be that they just know the maps better and know how to run around better without being seen. I dunno.

- Infantry-only maps. Gimme some damn vehicles.

- Idiot teammates never spot. SPOT DAMMIT!!! This has been a problem in BFBC2 as well. BFBC1 had a better approach where, if you hit someone or fired very close, they'd light up. This helped because then everyone was spotting. If you're gonna have the feature in the game, have it be meaningful and useful.

Overall...eh. It's cool in some ways, not in others. The ways in which it isn't cool are predictable because they're built in as a "feature" of the BF series. I'm hoping that more people will actually communicate and coordinate as the game matures.

--EDIT--

One other thought. EA/Dice's approach to support on BFBC2 was...spotty. They also were VERY cheap on DLC and releasing maps. There were some fantastic maps from BFBC1 that never returned, although one or two made a reappearance eventually. Still, it was a shame to see BFBC2 get a sort of "cash grab" approach to the post-release support. Not that the game was totally abandoned, just that bugs and problems were allowed to linger for a while, and what was ultimately released as DLC was pretty lame all things considered. I'd be wary about this title. I know they're releasing some retro maps with it, which will be cool, but I'm betting all of their DLC will "ship with the disc" but be "unlocked" via DLC releases down the road. Caveat emptor.

I like the game but only the multiplayer. The single player has a very generic storyline. The only reason I played through it was for achievements and I bet the single player in about 4 hours.

The online is where it's at though, especially if you install the HD upgrade.

4 hours? On what difficulty? I was considering getting this, but that makes me think twice for sure. Is multi much better than the beta?
