Battle of Yavin IV diorama

fantastic model love it .

Its too late now and not a criticism in anyway just an idea. In the film biz we use black velvet for our star back drops ( or we did before blue /green screen) it soaks up all the light and give you a much deeper black. your car get vinyl backed velvet at most hobby stores or just photo mount velvet fabric. Then add star's with acrylic or any way you desire.

but amazing work.

Flimzy: Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try in upcoming works.
(although my next dio will have a totally different environment...;-):

A new very black paint that can be applied with a paint brush (Black 3.0) is on the horizon. It should be amazing for star field dioramas like this. Google for details. It is almost as good as Vanta Black but much easier to use and without the legal restrictions. I can't wait for it to become available, and I don't even know what I would use it for yet.

Bellissimo, Poakwoods!

I wanted to do this with the 1/72 Bandai's, but I got stymied on the lighting of the ships.

My plan, and which I did make some tests of, was to use black velvet, photo mounted on foam board, similar to what filmzy suggested.
Fiber optic, of various sizes, looks amazing against the black void of the velvet- though you you can still pick up some shadows from objects in front, depending on the room or dio lighting.

Otherwise, I absolutely love the frame around the backdrop as well as the sensational job you did scratchbuilding the DS tiles.
Who cares about screen accuracy? You recreated the visceral impact of the screen moment in a very aesthetically pleasing way.

Bravo!

Cool work, if it it possible make it a litte bit longer the Ships are very close together
