Battery-operated cooling fan?

I see images of computer-type fans running on batteries with switches, but don't know how to rig this or a source for finding them. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The cooling systems for larger costumes are waaay too expensive and this would be a better option for me.

You can find all this at a Radio Shack if you're in the US. Match black wires to black wires and red wires to red wires and your good to go.

Those computer fans are generally 12 volt fans (check the fine print on the fan itself if you are curious.) You can rig 8 "C" or "D" batteries up to the fans to power them for full power, or you can use few batteries to run the fans slower (but create a shorter run time.)

I recommend the C or D batteries because the larger the casing the longer the lifespan. Use "AA" batteries for helmets, and only "AAA" when you absolutely have to (they do not last long for those high power fans).

I rarely use 9 volt batteries anymore due to the short lifespan that is inherent in the 'box' battery design.

yep, i run a 12v cpu fan in my vader lid, and have it setup running 2 4aaa bat packs hooked up so they put out 12v to fan, works great.
