Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Zack Snyder has become the new Joel Schumacher

Funny enough, Cranston was first rumored to be playing Lex Luthor, which he quickly debunked.

Schumacher? That's a serious BURN!!!
I remember that rumor and I was dancing with joy until the debunkage.

F.A.I.L I am an eternal optomist and I like the kid, but he is the most ridiculous casting choice for a villian ever

He plays an arrogant a-hole very well. I just don't think they have a true feel for what Lex needs to be on film... like every other Superman movie.

Irons is all good for me, would make a fine sarcastic Alfred like in BTAS I hope. Eisenberg sure is a surprise, and definitely not my first choice, but physically, I can see the JLA cartoon Luthor in his face. Just google him and imagine him without all the hair. He definitely has cold dead eyes, and he mastered the fake smile and poker face. He can definitely play the arrogant type too, so what the hell, he could be surprising. As long as they stay as far as possible from the previous iterations of Luthor on the big screen that is.

Edit : and now that I think about it, you guys are always whining about Zuckerberg being evil, so ... :D

DC just gave up. Marvel wins. Game over.

Eisenberg is the worst casting idea in any movie, much less as Lex Luthor.

I don't know.

I loved his character in Now You See Me, and I can see Jesse Eisenberg playing the cold, calculating aspect of Lex Luthor.

That said, he'll need to slow down his speaking style to a more Clancy Brown-esque cadence. Lex Luthor needs to sound like he's already got all the bases covered. The speedy cadence Eisenberg has in the vast majority of his roles will go counter to this.

Ha..I actually like the idea of Cera playing Joker :lol.

As much as I want to chalk this up to crazy fans always unhappy with casting choices, I cannot for the life of me see this kid pull it off. This makes the Gadot casting for WW look like a genius move. It all comes down to his annoying voice, how's he going to change that? Is he going to do the Bale Batman voice? :wacko

Yes, he's played arrogant socially awkward geniuses in a couple roles, but his portrayals didn't strike anyone as villainous, THAT'S where he's most lacking. IMO Eisenberg's just annoying and smarmy, I've never found him in any role where I didn't think otherwise. It's pretty clear Snyder wants to go a completely different direction away from the traditional source material Lex, too bad it's going to blow up in his face when Supes and Bats face up with skinny lil Mark Zuckerberg and the audience just starts laughing.

As for Irons as Alfred, I'm pretty indifferent there, I don't see much reason why he can't pull it off. Hell, I think Irons would've been a better Lex than Eisenberg, he was fairly solid in Die Hard.

Snyder is just trying to replicate what Nolan did with the Dark Knight Trilogy - cast unexpected actors for roles people wouldn't have thought of. Problem is: he's not doing based on anything but that simple idea. He made Man of Steel packed with dark undertones because it worked well for Batman, but Batman is a dark story and Superman's is not. And that (like many things) is completely over Snyder's head. Nolan had auditions with different actors before choosing the ones that fit the vision of the characters he had. Snyder may have done this - I don't know - but based on the choices so far, I doubt it.

To be honest, I don't recall a whole lot of negative feedback about Ledger. Ledger showed range as an actor prior to being cast as the Joker, he was not a one note pony as Eisenberg has shown to be (at least to me). As the Joker, Ledger also had make up to hide behind... Eisenberg does not have the luxury, shaving your head can only do so much.

I hope we're all wrong about him. But, I can't see anyway possible he can pull it off - he's not the right type actor, he doesn't have the look. This is just... stupid.

This is ridiculous. What kind of casting is this? I can tell you this, I won't be seeing this movie till it's in the dollar bin. I am not interested in another Batman and Robin. I can't go through that again.:lol Well they done ****ed it up. Thank you Mr. Snyder, you ruined my favorite characters. Well i'm gonna watch TDK trilogy again, and try to wipe this information from my brain.

"Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What's great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions."

Translation: Haha Eisenberg because it's an edgy twist! **** you Superman Fans.

I have to say, im very excited to see what Jesse Eisenberg will bring to Lex Luthor, Whenever i think Lex Luthor, i hear Clancy brown in my head, and while i was hoping for something along the lines of an older guy with a low dark voice like clancy, Im still open to the idea of Jesse. I never would have thought of it, so who knows? Snyder must have a plan, guess we will just need to wait and see.

As for Jeremy Irons, Bring it on. Hes perfect in my opinion, and im excited to finally get someone who looks more like comic alfred to play the part. (please have a moustache Jeremy Irons!!)

Also hopefully now that the Brian Cranston as lex rumours are over, he will be cast as Gordon instead. this needs to happen, he has the looks, the acting chops, and he's already played the voice of gordon once in Batman Year one, so just let it happen already!!

Honestly this Snyder has a plan nonsense has to stop. He's not some visionary director. His largest accomplishment is Watchmen. And that was just a page for page transcription of the graphic novel to film. That isn't hard. I don't believe he has any idea of what he is doing, and is just making these casting decisions to be off board. If this were Scorsese or tarantino, I would say yeah I think they have the best in mind. Snyder, NO I am not looking forward to this especially with all the batman, and superman films that are already released, and are much better cast. This is just another cash in that has had no thought put into it's production. They can have your money, I'm keeping mine.

My first reaction was deep shock and revulsion But i think that had more to do with the fact that he looks younger than Cavill (is he?) than any judgement on his acting ability, as I don't think I've ever seen a movie of his. I hated the casting if Fishburn as Perry white when it was announced too, though, and I think he did a great job in that role, so I'm willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. And Jeremy Irons as alfred i never would have thought of, but I've always liked Irons, even in his bad movies, so I'm good with that one.
