Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Using ***** imagery is a way for lazy writers to lend symbolic gravitas to their work that's been going on for years and years and year. Listen to any U2 album, for instance :p I highly doubt it'll be disrespectful (not that I care, but that's my gut feeling). Religious issues and ideas will be tossed around to give the film some sheen of philosophical heft, and then we can go back to the laser vision and crumbling buildings and so forth.

I agree with that 100%. Using religious symbolism is done quite regularly. Whether it be out of laziness, symbolic gravitas, heft... My only comment/concern was the constant attacks and demonization of Christianity. I find rather odd that Hollywood, as teeny tiny as it is, would choose to continally indirectly attack 3/4s of the Earth's population.

I hope the use of symbolsim is done in a positive way. And of course mix it all in with the laser shooting eyeballs and crumbling buildings! And add a few explosions for good measure.

:)

Not quoting the rest as I don't want to get into a religion debate but MOS used imagery like that as well.

Didn't see the movie... is that good or bad? ;)

More like a third of the Earth's population, but yes, I think Hollywood knows that American demographics being what they are, it's in the best interest of their box office to shy away from being overtly hostile toward JC in these big spectacle movies. But hey, I could be wrong!

Maybe I don't watch enough movies to catch it, but I've never seen one that attacks Christianity in any way whatsoever. Other religions, definitely. If anything, they seem to me to actively avoid the subject (outside of the obvious symbolism some superhero movies use, which is meant positively)

Okay, let's get back on topic guys.

Considering Snyder has directly compared Superman to a certain religious figure in both films through the use of imagery wouldn't that make this conversation on topic? The darn trailer even has graffiti on on the Superman statue that says FALSE GOD. As long as we are discussing it within the scope of the movie seems like it should be ok?

I was being a bit tongue in cheek with my reference, but the reference is hard to deny.

If an alien came down and saved the world, I'm sure alot of religious people would claim he is their savior or a false prophet.

Not to mention a percentage of the population with a "cult" mentality, i.e. people who are more than willing to deify just about anyone or anything that they think is the answer to all of their problems. If the producers are wise they'll take that angle in the movie and create a fictional cult to ridicule rather than alienating any of the currently established religions.

New photo of the batsuit is up!

Can't say I dig it, at least not in that lighting. And the ears are more reminiscent of Adam West cowl than I thought.

He looks like he has no neck. It might be the cape and cowl or just bad posing, but looks like his trapezius muscles are up to his jaw line and it looks wrong. The more I look at the picture the more his structure looks weird. Sorry Afleck, but the suit makes your muscles look funny.

The texture on the suit is weird, makes it look like the suit is made out of a curtain from Wayne Manor :p

Plus he has a look on his face like he found bird poop on the Batmobile after just washing it...

I don't understand why so many people get their panties in a bunch over the choice of fabrics costume designers use for superhero costumes. It's like they can't accept anything that's not form-fitting, texture-less, patern-less spandex or lycra that looks like it came directly from the comic.
