Batman beyond cowl (first sculpt)

Ultracal can be found at specialty cement suppliers. Try doing a search for places close that carry US Gypsum products. for a mold like this you have to do it in 2 pieces and plaster of paris expands way to much to use and it's far too weak. If you decide to start over look up some vids on making a 2 piece ultracal mold. you have to do it in several layers and the first is always a thin liquid that's brushed on with a soft natural brush to avoid air pockets. I usually do 2 thin layers then a layer with burlap reinforcement and a finishing layer over that. Also making a proper slip latex mask is best done by pouring the entire mold full and letting it sit for a specific time depending on how thick you want and then pouring it back out letting it drain on something over the bucket. I've done many this way.

Hi Thanks for the super helpful advice! I won't be attempting this design again but have started working on another cowl and I will definitely apply the things that you have suggested to my second work! cheers :)

Thanks guys! So Here is the final result. It's so rough and bumpy from imperfections in the mold (could only get hold of plaster of Paris) that I feel like a scarecrow hallucination batman beyond might be a better description now haha. Also it's slightly too tight to fit me without squeezing my face so no photos of it being worn unfortunately. Anyway here is the latex mask.

And on to the next mask!

It's probably bumpy because you didn't add enough layers of latex, usually min. 4 coats gives a great result.

Looks good so far, after you cast a few you should fill the nose in to form a more traditional triangle nose and see how you like that. I think a new nose would really bring this piece together.
