Barlow, Salem's Lot

Thrashed out a few bits this week.

Sculpted the teeth on a cast of my own teeth, just need to smooth out and then mould them.

Right ear, needs texturing, Barlows skin was rough as!!

Just going to use yellow UV lenses, custom made sclera were proving a little too expensive for just a one off photoshoot.

Check out my avatar, it's a picture Reggie Nalder autographed to me.

AWESOME, Ive been trying to find a way to get a Barlow figure done but could never figure out how. I was searching the net and found you guys talking about Reggie/Barlow. Let me tell you guys somethin. I used to know Reggie Nalder and Jack Young when they were alive and as a matter of fact I HAVE REGGIE'S BARLOW TEETH that I got from Jack Young as well as an 8x10 EXTREME closeup make up shot I had never seen before of Reggie as Barlow. I became freggin obsessed with Salem's Lot as a kid and would talk about it constantly!! That's why I contacted Jack Young Reggie and Morton Greenspoon. I just wanted whatever I could get that had do with this movie even if it was just an autograph.

Thank god I held on to everything. Ive been meening to dig up the teeth from storage but Ive been lazy about it, after seeing this blog I'm going to start looking tonight. I think I put them in with my famous monsters mags. Jack had sent me the call sheets and the teeth along with some stills. Reggie sent me a bunch of stills as Barlow that he signed as well as some letters and cards, b-day etc. I sent him a few to sign too.

I got a long letter from Morton Greenspoon saying I was the first person to ever ask for his autograph. I tried to get the contact lenses but he didn't have them any more. It's funny but as a kid I always loved this stuff and since the actors were mostly all dead when I started getting into this, I figured the next best thing is to contact the makeup guys.

My friend got some things of Jack Pierce that he got from his brother in law and out of that I got some orig makeup stills of Karloff as Imhotep and Chaney as The Wolfman playing with his dog Moose. On the back of those stills is Jack Pierces autograph in pencil.

With Jack Young I initially asked him for a makeup picture of Margaret Hamilton as the Witch and Reggie as Barlow. He didnt have anything on the witch but he had the shot of Barlow (I gotta scan that biotch so you guys can see it) and back in the day these guys thought nothing of taking an original still right out of their own collection and sending it.

Alot of them had said they had never ever had gotten a fan letter before. I thought that was weird because to me they are the ones responsible for creating these characters. Any way, the one thing I almost got but never did was the Barlow skull that was in the coffin.
I had talked about it a few times with Jack but I could never bring myself to ask for it. I didnt want to be a greedy lil bstard. I guess I got over zealous with this stuff. Jack told me he had that skull at the bottom of his stairs in the living room. What a cool place to keep Barlows skull! I don't think his wife liked it there much.

The last I heard from Jack Young was actually his wife sending me an invite to his memorial in Marina Del Rey, but me being in NJ, under age and poor I wasnt going to make it.

With Reggie I talked to him on the phone and we were going to meet in NY at a place called The Barbizon. I think it's a hotel but he never made it. I got a call from his friend, Dwight Grell who told me Reggie had passed away. I was surprised that I got a phone call, it was on the very night he died. I was pretty much devastated beyond words and left my job early. It was a 30 minute drive home at night all alone so you can imagine the tears were streaming. I never got to meet Reggie but he was a great guy and a very caring person. You guys wouldve loved him and I think he wouldve loved being remembered so fondly. He did in fact realize that his "Barlow" was a character that alot of people were great fans of.

Im hoping that maybe I can find someone to make me a Barlow figure. That's something Ive always wanted but I'm not artistically inclined. I had once contacted Olaf Hartvigson the Sideshow sculptor but he wanted almost 1000 dollars just to sculpt the head. I could never afford that. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me and point me in the right direction. Anyway, thank you for listening to me ramble on...........joey OBrien

Have you had a chance to scan the photo yet? I'm really interested to see this.

I must add... I was totally infatuated with this movie when I was young. I remember taping it off TV in the 80's and then my little brother taped the Smurfs over the top of it!

One of those projects that got left on the backburner. Pretty much scrapped everything (except the teeth) in favour of a silicone prosthetic mask.
Few shots from last weekend, hope to build a coffin prop for Halloween.
