Bargain Sparrow hat...

I'm building a budget Captain Jack Sparrow costume, and currently I am in the market for a tricorn hat. I'm trying to pay as little as I can for this costume, so I've narrowed it down to three seemingly-accurate and fairly-inexpensive possibilities. These auctions have all ended, so I hope I'm allowed to post them:

thedisturbance's hat
pnxcoyote's hat
maxab2's hat

All three of them appear to be of decent accuracy for their price, but I have slight apprehensions about each of them. The first one, I think, may be too dark. The second looks to be larger than it should be (if you scroll down to the "in action" pictures). The third - it may be a lighting/camera issue, but the weathering looks to be a bit too heavy to be believable. However, I'm not sure how much of this is just bad judgment on my part, so I was hoping to get your opinions. Thanks.

the first 2 are the same hat, as i have one.
quite nice, and holds it shape. but make sure you measure the circumference of your head WITH the wig.
as this hat is not very big, 21 inches or so and its a one size fits all

TheDisturbance is a member here, try contacting him maybe for a rpf discount?
hehe.

the 3rd hat i would stay away, it looks soft and might not hold it shape.

TheDisturbance's hat looks nice, do you have any pics of yours sparrowfan?
And do you really think he can give us a RPF discount? LOL :D

I thought the same thing (it looks big in the in action photo's) so I'd be interested in seeing your hat, sparrowfan. I'm also putting together a Jack Sparrrow on a budget so this would be a great deal if it is somewhat close to the original. Thanks.

Randy

There's also the hat being sold by Sith-World (no connection, as far as I am aware, to Sithcamaro) which may potentially be more accurate. However, there are no "in action" shots, so it's hard to gauge whether or not it is the proper size, and it actually doesn't list a circumference to see if it would fit me - it just says that it's one size fits all, and could be stretched a little if need be. That, plus the slightly higher price, makes me wary to buy it without hearing reviews. I would post the auction, but it's still running.

It looks similiar to the others you posted. Like you said, it's hard to tell the actual size without it on someone's head. Shipping is almost double as well.

Hi,

The most accurate color to the original hat is my brown hat.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Captain-Jack-Sparrow-H...1QQcmdZViewItem

My hats are also shaped differently in the back. To be more accurate. I also have a smaller size version. A few folks find my current version to be a little to big in overall size. I prefer my smaller version, but it's a tight fit if you are wearing a wig too. My current version accomidates a wig.

I definately can give a discount to RPF members. $25.00 off. So you can purchase hats through me for $45.00 shipping included. Just paypal me at mastercheng@gmail.com indicate what hat color you want: brown (most accurate), black, or red. My hats normally sell for $50.00 plus $20.00 shipping. So that's a big discount for my fellow comrades.

Thanks,
Mark Cheng

^ hey $10 off. awesome

yeah its hard to tell the actual size.
i don't have a pic of the hat on me, but i do have a pic of someone with that same hat on.

That's quite a discount, thanks a lot. :)

I haven't gotten my wig put together yet, so I don't know how big I'll need to go...would it be possible for me to measure myself now (without a wig), and you could maybe judge which size would be best? If so, how should I measure?

P.S.: If I wanted to buy one of those Sparrow skull rings off of you as well, would you be able to throw that in with the hat to lower shipping costs?

It's a great offer indeed. :)
Especially for "foreigner" like me. :D
I think I will send you an e-mail soon ;)

Mark, can you tell me roughly the size of the smaller hat? I have a 23 inch head and am wondering if the smaller one will fit. Will the hat stretch? Thanks.

Randy

Mark, thanks for the rpf discount, most appreciated.
My head is also around the 23 inch mark, plus wig. So what would need, or what do you offer that would fit.
PM sent about the hat and ring.

Dagnabbit, that sure is tempting.

Tempting, hah - I'm definitely going to go for it, no question at all. I simply need to figure out which model I want first.

No disrespect to The Disturbance but aren't these made by Elope Hats? I'm pretty sure that they are. Man, these retailed for $24.99 around Halloween. I picked one up for $7 the day after. I can't believe people are paying this much. Oh well, whatever floats your boat...errrr...ship.

If I were you I would contact Elope Hats and ask for the Scallywag in brown. Save some booty.

Yes the larger hat should fit you better.

:angry Hey. Hey. Hey. That is me. Who did this. Posting my ugly mug all over this forum.

:eek Just kidding. Surprised to find out that I am being used as a "Captain Jack Sparrow budget wise faux leather tricorn hat" model. This one will soon go onto the display shelf or be used without the costume. Too small for a wig, shin bone, bandana, and dangles. It is about 23 inches in circumference and you basically have to squeeze it on your head and suffer a headache by the end of the day. This is why I have already started cutting my REAL leather tricorn hat. It shall be my first post in the Prop forum. Stay tuned.
