Hi J,

Can you describe how you replaced the underside panels? Did you use putty, styrene, both? I am preparing a similar mod and am looking for help with technique.

Hi i am leaf,.....I cut away the sections,....used styrene plasticard to re-do the cut away area,...making the new surface smooth with fillers, this new surface would be slightly lower than that of the finished panelled surface,...this allowed me to use thin plasticard to re-panel with the notches around the edges....it was great to use the 1/72 model as a guide

This is where I am now with the commission, using NK Guy's 3d printed side walls

Crazy! Those pits are filled with insanely tiny parts at that scale.

Inspiring! I may need to do this to my extra 1/144 Falcon... I'd really like to do a larger scale version of Docking Bay 94... I had toyed with the idea of doing one in 1/72... But I'm quickly running out of space in my apt...

You just answered a question I had. Oils (and turpenoid) can go over archivex enamels.

Did you use any lacquer paints? I have a base coat of AS-20.

After I painted the panels, before I started the streaks I gave it a blast of Hycote Matt lacquer, its a car rattle can,....(I have a range of Hycote spray paints,...grey, white, yellow, oxide & black primers,....gloss & matt lacquers, it never clogs or splatters)....so that I had a nice new surface to start the streaks

I used AS-20 on a studio scale model, it went on a bit thick for me,.....BUT,...it gave a great surface to build up on,....I really would like to try it again

It's actually just the basecoat Reefer White with a touch of Lark L.T. Grey....really just to make it a shade darker than the base

Ok,...been doing models on a rota...so trying to get past projects finished..this one got some attention in the last couple of days...added the Paragrafix grilles...the Shapeways Radar by Tony RR, and put in some 5v LED’s...marching ahead with this now

That's not what CA stands for. It's CyanoAcrylate glue. Contact adhesive (or contact cement) is a whole different thing.

Spent quite an amount of time on this thread, great job, love it. Planning on doing a similar thing, converting the TROS version to the ESB (so that there's less work with the landing gear). How does the TROS radar dish and turret compare to the OT version?
