Baker Roundel Project - CAD Help needed

Does anyone have a HD head on picture of a production roundel? We have the blank created and just want to do an overlay to compare details, we want this to be as accurate as possible.

Thanks guys.

Here are some pictures of the plaster roundel and brass former that I used to make it. This attempt came out rough in places, and the plaster never got hard on the surface. This is probably due to a combination of bad plaster and the fact that I was having to mist water on the surface to keep the plaster from sticking to the former. The plaster was setting too quickly, despite using very cold water. The plaster never really got warm during the setting process, so I think it was contaminated with moisture. I'm going to try a different approach on the second attempt with plaster that was heated to 350 degrees F to drive off any moisture contamination. This should slow down the fast set once mixed with water. If this snow and ice weather will go away, I can start the second attempt.

Just found this thread and was wondering how you were progressing?

And if you ever consider to do a run of these.

and I'd definately be interested in one if you eve

Some progress has been made. I'm working on making some subtle changes to the former that should improve the profile accuracy. A V2 plaster roundel was created with the old former, and it could be use to make a mould. I'm going to wait and see how V3 turns out before making any moulds since silicone is pricey. I may use a plaster/dextrin mix or some UltraCal 30 for V3. Funds are somewhat limited at the moment though, so the plaster/dextrin mix is more likely.

I'll let Karsten speak on the subject of doing any runs. I don't want to completely hijack his thread. :) I dare say it would probably be mid-year before such things could become a reality.

Kev is right on the time line. To get the best result time is being taken to get the cleanest plug we can to work from. We are on the east coast and temps are still lower for good progress, cure times etc. That being said, I personally am interested in doing a run in conjunction with Kevin and I would like to offer it to those who have wanted that particular piece but until we are further along and can put out something great i'm not going to start a run thread. Stay tuned though and we will be posting updates as they come. V2 looks great and with the new V3 details its going to be even better.

Long delayed update for everyone on this project. I didn't want to say anything until I finally had it in my hands. I was finally able to snag a genuine BBC roundel for my collection and also for this project. I will get pictures up on Friday. Precursory measurements that I have taken line up with what is currently known about the Baker roundels. I can provide anyone pictures, measurements etc as needed by those who may want to tackle the project on their own.

Karst
