Bad props?

In "Lois and Clark" (Superman TV-show with Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain), the Kryptonian soldiers escorting Clark/Kal-El's would-be consort wore "armor" that was clearly made out of off-road bicycle tires.

there was a movie a couple years ago with christian slater ,stephen dorff, and tara reed ((something in the dark))) and the had construction worker stud finders on the barrel of there rifles ,,i suppose they were suppose to be some sort of laser pointer or something ,but the thing that got me is there is already so much cool stuff you can put on an ar15 why use a stud finder

IN the The Phantom Menace....anyone notice Anakin's 'trackball' scoop hanging on the wall..

Hey I had one of those as a kid too!!

Yes, me too. I recognized it the first time i saw the movie. Mine was made with an orange plastic basket... :$

i guess its not strictly on topic but the 80's BSG and Buck Rogers fighter launch sequences and sound effects were identical.
When i watch them now they are soooo 80's it hurts my eyes.
i'm sure there were prop swaps for both shows too.

I noticed that on many scenes in Buck Rogers when the earth fighters were landing they did not bother to edit out the tail of the "Space Shuttle" looking ship from the landing scene. I think the stock landing footage was from the pilot episode. :lol

I like cheep found props, or those that are made up of found parts. A lot of that machined stuff looks awful to me.

I mean Obi-wan's ANH saber is the coolest ever because it's crusty and old, and made up out of all found parts. Whereas Dooku's saber looks like something made up out of scraps found around the "orange county choppers" shop floor, from one of the more recent, not so good, seasons. (I mean what is an old fart like that doing with a saber that's more flash, then form.) Or sideous's saber, that thing sucks. the whole emitter section looks like an after thought, and the whole saber looks to store bout. Plus, the fact that his second saber looks like it came from the same mold was just lazy, either let it be the same saber, or get off your a$$'s and make a new saber.

I cold list a ton of props that were very expensive to make, and took a lot of "skill", and work, butin the end I've seen better in the toy store.

Quoted for thruth, it was on TV a couple of days ago, and it was really a bad idea...

I noticed the computer expert in the War of the Worlds TV series using a high tech computer gizmo which was actually a Colecovision game pad painted white.

I love most classic Trek props. However...

Maybe somebody ran out of money... or time...

I haven't seen that footage, but my guess is that the costumes were rentals, left over from one or more of the various Road Warrior ripoffs made in the 80s. I seem to recall seeing a piece about a Hollywood costume rental place in which just such a costume was shown.

The "wire-tap scrambler" in V For Vendetta... can you say "booklight with a red LED"?

The gas masks worn by Ra's and his men in Batman Begins were, quite obviously, just paintball masks. Also, the Batmobile was just a repainted bridging vehicle :lol

Firefly's voice recorder from "The Message" was a Dollar Tree brand FM radio with a paintjob. They just stopped selling them about 6 months ago.

In RoboCop the tracking device for locating Robo was just a backlit graphic with a blinking red LED. When Clarence is seen turning it on and off at the tail-end of the film you can easily see that the two lights operate on different circuits; when he turns the screen off the red light continues to blink.

Buckaroo Banzai's Oscillation Overthruster could be seen in an ep of Trek TNG, but that was more of a homage by the fans working there than just grabbing something out of the "prop box".

Jackie Chan's movie City Hunter featured RoboCop's Auto-9 pistol prominently, being used between two bad guys. Seeing as how Hong Kong was the center of Auto-9 replicas back in '93 (mostly cheap spring bb guns) I thought that was a lame move until it was shown actually firing a blank in the last half of the movie. I guess Golden Harvest managed to nab one of the actual guns from one of the films. Somewhat related, Bandai's Toku Museum in Japan had a display featuring Kamen Rider Faiz wearing the Gyro-Pack from RoboCop 3, repainted with red trim and a big 'ol Smart Brain (the fictional company from the series) logo on it.

How about the "computer memory core" carried by Willrow Hood in The Empire Strikes Back, which is really an ice cream maker.

Yup, it was actually "off the shelf" costumes left over from another WB product, "Demolition Man".
