Back to the Future II: Marty's Jacket (the holy grail of BTTF props)

If you can get me a jacket that fits a 38R size, that's me. I'm 5'10" 170lbs.
I uderstand that the arms bellows would be non-customizable, but hopefully the overall length where the cuff meets the wrist can be.
PM me if you are willing to go over some specifics.
 
I think $700 for the jacket is a fair price, if not way more. Go to Nordstrom's and look at their jackets. Not even half the amount of work go into those and they sell for $1200 easy. It looks fantastic and don't sell yourself short. Yeah $700 is a lot of money but if you want one bad enough, you can save for a while and eventually get one. You've inspired me to make my own but "wearablility" is more important to me then exact screen accuracy (because if I had one I'd want to wear it almost everyday!) . I am hoping to make it look better then that $200 mass produced effort but I don't really have the materials and cash to make it look as good as yours.

The very nature of this jacket is what has stopped people from succesfully replicating this jacket up until this point. With all those custom molded rubber components, its not as easy as sewing something together. I can really appreciate the time, money and effort put into this. Bravo!!!
 
I think a lot of people are still missing something - the *materials alone* cost several hundred dollars. Even if this thing went into mass-production somehow (which is incredibly unlikely), the minimum price would probably still be over $1000. Now figure in how much time it takes to make just one of these by hand. I would be surprised if they ever got below $1500 a piece, and even that may be lowballing it. Just because $500 - $700 seems like the 'right' price doesn't make it feasible. I've custom-made full costumes before, and I gotta say, it takes a lot of time to get everything just right! And I wasn't trying to replicate a screen-accurate futuristic jacket!

I'm just saying, don't be too surprised if the number is more like $2,000 per jacket. This thing is amazing, impressive, and awesome - and those don't come cheap!

Just my $0.02.

Again, DocBrown88 - fantastic work!! Don't let anyone tell you that jacket is worth anything less than the cost of the materials *and all the time* you put into it!
 
So - I know the cost will be high for one of these jackets, but for the obvious quality and attention to detail on this piece - it will be worth every cent.
Did I just miss it though? Did DocBrown88 actually mention a ballpark price for one of these beauties, once he has the time to take a few orders?
 
would it be possible to buy the belt and cuff? i think it would look pretty good on the ebay one if i did a swap

seriously the amount of detail and attention put into props within the BTTF replica community is amazing.

It's one of the reasons i joined THIS forum .

So psyched to see this jacket completed.

BUT....

are you guys going to work on the polyester fabric for the jacket lining like the screen used version? haha (kidding?)

If Nike worked on the Jacket for the FIlm as well as the Air Mags (am i Wrong?), it makes sense that they use similar prints featured on their shoes....
"Cement/Elephant"Print is most prominently noticed on the Air Jordan Line.

Just tweaked the print for a minute to see it works out- kinda close.
Needs more vertical "lightning" streaks.

Yep,
Ed got the interior fabric perfect on the prototype I saw. Again, thats another pain in the butt part that makes up just one piece of the massive project.

I think it was said this was for a screen used jacket, the self adjusting one. If you think that's much, I recall Harrison Ford's hero fedora from Raiders went for somewhere in the six figures. :eek
 
Have seen this jacket first-hand, I can tell you it's not just a prop replica, it's a work of art. Truly incredible and a testament to DB88's skills.

I hope didn't kill you dude by making you sweat your balls off to get it ready for the event :) Sometimes it's good to have the pressure though huh?!

The fabric liner is not printed... Its actually a crushed rainbow dyed fabric that was then dyed black... The only places you can see color are inside folds and wrinkles of fabric... Its amazing... The more it moves around the more color is exposed... I would have never know this or believed it unless i had seen it in person... I looked around everywhere and asked about having it made and most places just scratched their heads and said "we dont do that kind of work"..

As for price... I dont even know myself... Im not sure how many of these jackets there will be... The amount of time it took to assemble this one was overwhelming... I received several offers for the jacket at the weregoingback event. The highest was 2k... But there will be an ebay auction for the jacket soon since the silent auction for it fell through at the event.

Anyway, heres a pic so you can get a look at how the jacket fits... On the left is Ken (the organizer of the event) and myself on the right.
