B4Dw0Lf Build

Question: I made the chest piece entirely of foamies and hot glued it all together and I'm really very pleased with how it looks but my question is, for those of you who have done the same thing Foam and hotglue, is the hotglue really strong enough to hold up when you wear the armour or do you do soemthing else to it to make it stronger?

It seems like it will hold up but theres just a couple of little areas where Im concerned that the hotglue alone might just not be enough. I even went as far as adding a little duct tape on the inside just for a little added hold. But still not 100% that its going to hold up to being worn. I may just be overly concerned and worrying about nothing but thought I would ask.

I used hot glue on a few pieces of my armor and haven't had any problems.  I got tired of having to wait for it to dry, so switched over to foam safe CA glue.  The CA glue works so well that the foam will actually tear before coming loose.  The down side of using foamies is their lack of durability.  You'll spend some time doing repairs after wearing and moving around in the suit for any length of time.  I've tried the PVA method, plastidip method, and hodge podge method with the same results (chipping, peeling, and cracking paint).

another what might be a stupid question,  So I'm looking at how to attach the backpack to the chest armour and my concern is that although its really light Im worried that it will pull and maybe rip the foam from the chest armour.  Does that make sense?

What different methods have others used for their backpacks?  Do you make it detachable or make it part of the chest armour.

Thanks in advance for your help

My backpack is attached to the torso armor, which is made from sintra and foam.  You could always reinforce the armor under the foam where you think it may tear.  Mine has been pulled on, mashed, and bumped without any damage to the armor.  The pack is another story however  o_O

I actually decided to fill my pack with expanding foam just to give it some reinforcement against bumping and such.  And it dosnt really add much more to the weight of it.  Im still not sure that Im happy with the backpack though.  Kinda thinking I might wanna go ahead and try it again.

I had a couple of ideas while building my current one that I think might work better and even be easier.

Really wish there was some sort of template other than the pep file.  Ive tried and failed at pep a few times now.

Update Time: So I built a back pack based on a few pictures sourced about the forum as well as watching the movies over and over.... didnt like it, so I started again.

This time I decided to attempt the Foam pep file for the backpack and see where it took me.  Have failed miserably a few times at paper pep I was very reluctant to even try this however I wanted to give it a shot.

So once again I cleared out the stock of 5mm foam sheets from Hobby Lobby and began my build.

im pretty pleased with it, although its not a clear cut, neat build its still pretty true to the beaten up weathered look the costume should have.

[for whatever reason I cant upload anymore pix, so please check out my facebook photo album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.838259816203053.1073741830.113944785301230&type=3 its a public facebook so anyone can see it]

:( I deleted my fb account some years ago, I think you need one to view Facebook pages. I'm about to start on a backpack/medkit and would love to see The pics of yours.

I dont know if you need to have a Facebook account to see this photos I dont think because its a public facebook page.... i could be wrong

Thanks... It wanted me to login on from my phone but I can view them from my laptop. :)

Btw nice and really helpful, I know there is a size limit per upload here so it may just need a resize.  It would be great to add these in this thread.

Another what maybe a stupid question.

When you start to assemble the costume, is everything connected together.  I mean with the chest armour are the should bells connected to it or are separate and just wrapped around the arm.  Also used an idea I found on the forums to mount the backpack using a sort of key hole method.  it holds pretty well, Ill post pictures once Ive uploaded them.

Ok so DTD was made last night, a few hiccups once it was removed... firstly..... I hadnt thought it through entirely and forgot to get something to stuff it with....

How the heck did i forget that. Also once you do get it off and you do get it stuffed you stand back and think to yourself... wow, do I really look like that..... is my arse really that flat and why do I look like a mannequin from the maternity clothing section.... Does my crutch really hang that low??

Oh well, anyway as I said I did manage to stuff it using a couple of packets of the brown paper dust sheets you get from Home Depot ($4 for 2 12x9 sheets) The Mr. I suit just about fit over the dummy and I now have a strange looking figure in my house.

oh and as promised earlier, heres how i mounted my backpack,

And thats basically where I am right now... over the next few days Ill attack the Mr. I suit with latex and hopefully achieve what some of you guys have managed to pull off.

I know I have a lot of questions.... but heres another.

So I begun to manipulate the Mr I suit.  Not sure if Im doing it right but Ive kept at it, i think I need to add a lot more texture though.  I do however have a question in regards to covering the suit, being as latex is particularly expensive has anyone tried using the plasti-dip spray to coat the suit.  I mean as far as Im aware latex is a rubber coating and the plasti-dip is essentially the same.   Im thinking of buying a few cans of white dip and giving the suit a good coat.

advice?

I watered the liquid latex down, about 50/50, this helped me to apply it on the suit and it did not stick to my brush. I purchased 1 gallon of liquid latex for $100 it should last me this build.

The only plastic dip I've used is aerosol cans which are expensive I can't imagine they would be cheaper than liquid latex.  The spray I've used is pretty toxic which may not be a good idea if you plan to add latex later.
