No, a partiallly completed prototype was. Just an Easter egg by Jon Favreau. If you remember in Captain America his shield was frozen with him.
I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

loki destroys the original shield, when he conquers asgard and gains odins power and the avengers come to aid. this is also when iron man gets the suit thats made out of the same material as thors hammer. The one in Stark's workshop wasn't the Vibranium one, but some kind of other prototype. I think I read somewhere that in the comics at one point Tony made a shield with some electronics in it for the Cap.
I guess I'm the only one who thought it was meh. Ok, the Hulk had a couple of funny 3-stooges moments but that doesn't make the movie. Lesse, evil guy wants to take over the world, opens up a portal where baddies pour through. He also converts some good guys by emptying their minds or something. 'Good' guys really making weapons instead of unlimited power, unbeknownst to the Avengers. Throw in a lot of Transformers type everything blows up moments at the end. Yep, this movie was totally refreshing and new.
Fantastic movie.
I would have loved to see Captain America pick up Thor's hammer and hand it to him; especially after the Hulk couldn't!

after that, iron man makes a electronic shield that is carried as a bracelet and is kinda holographic out of the bracelet.
something like that

The reasons explained is pretty much what I thought during the first viewing of the movie.
Ultimately, whether the spear influenced everyone or not is NOT a big deal in the overall plot, just a minor detail that can be a point of contention among supergeeks that care about the smallest details.
