Heard on the radio yesterday that Avatar was going to be re released in the cinema with an extra '5 mins' of footage....asap..........

Cameron said something like 'It broke our hearts to cut the footage from the original print so its nice to put it back in'

Like, yeh, its really going to matter......:unsure

Then the article went on to say the Blue ray will be out first, then in November re-released with bonus extras etc......

I mean, c'mon, thats pretty crap, even the radio reporter said 'He's not milking it, is he?'

Isn't it damaging to be playing this game so often with re-releases? People aren't stupid, and will just hold off until the re-re-re-release is done, by which time they will probably have lost interest....

With the rise of director's editions, anniversary editions, movie companies realised they could release a half finished film and have people pay several times to get more pieces ... I fear it's only going to get worse over time and we'll be bombarded with all kinds of scams to try to leverage us out of our money at the drop of a hat.

Another reason is that it was still making money, but theaters had other 3d movies to show so they yanked it due to a lack of 3d screens.

I hope it goes to the 3D Imax theaters again. I still haven't seen it, and it's not in the Imax theaters around me.

If people want to see it they will. The box office results will decide if it's a good idea or not.

Don't really see why this would bother anyone.

This. I had plans fall through when going to see this in IMAX so it will be nice to catch it again in theaters. Honestly though the movie doesn't really have any appeal to me, but its one of those "see what the fuss is all about" kind of things.

I don't think re-releasing a movie is damaging. Most films that win an Oscar or some type of an award get another viewing in theaters. Even Star Wars was re-released back in the day.

Doesnt matter to me. Its your money, you decide what you do with it.

I dont give Cameron my money.

Back at ya. My exact sentiments on the film.

It sounds somewhat entertaining, but not quite the "Second Coming/Game Changer/ZOMG why is this not best picture?!!!" that people made it out to be.

My thought would be, a THREE hour movie and it broke your heart to cut 5 minutes? Really? Who'd have given a rat's behind if was 3:05 instead of 3:00? Anyone? Um? No.

It's not like that 5 minutes would have cost theater's a cent, At 5 showings in a row, it would account for a whopping 25 minutes.

If it was that big a deal, just leave it in.

Sounds more like marketing ploy than 'heartbreaking decision'.

I hate going to packed theaters so I waited so long to see this that I missed out. I'd definately go see it if it was re-released.

Go to it, Solo. I know I've nagged you about this, but seriously, it's worth the ticket price just for the 'folks riding dragons around flying islands' scenes. It is a daft old fantasy trope but you'll never see it done better.

(Actually I'm just looking forwards to the snarky post-viewing comments.) :p

Another reason why I won't give this ass-hat my money.

He's worked harder to deserve it than Lucas did. :p

I think it is actuallly a game-changer, to some degree. I say that with about a ton and a half of chagrin, given my pre-release comments. But look at all the projects that have been announced in 3D since, or have been held back in preprod in order to be done in 3D. It's at the least resulted in a temporary shift towards the format and could even be another 'this sound thing will never catch on' sort of deal. That would be a lot less irritating if it wasn't for Cameron's towering ego. :sick

It's still running at multi theaters in my area, so it's not like it isn't still making money, and people are still going, if he wants to put it back in the Imax I say go for it, the kids being out of school will probably support it's release quite well...

Amazing how there is finally a movie that Hollywood puts out that people want to see over and over again and the industry answers the call and they are the bad guys? No one is forcing anyone to go again, but many will because they want to....

No argument there.
JC is very talented...I just feel that he is a Class-A jerk.

Sad but true, by pretty much everyone's account.

There are people in the industry who prove that it is possible to put their exact directorial vision on screen without treating everyone around them like peons. Or even having really positive relationships with their staff. What's Cameron's excuse? Is he an "office psychopath" type?

IMAX only has a certain space for movie film footage. Litterally. They had to get very expensive (I forget the price now) new equipment just to handle Episode 2 when they did that, since that was the longest film they'd ever run before (and even then, it still have to be shaved down 20-some minutes).

Having a movie longer-than-what-was-in-IMAX is totally plausable.
