Assassin's Creed: Altair

Haha, I'm 6'2" with a bad back, the only parkour I'll be doing is AC and Mirror's Edge. I do plan to get some really good pictures at Vasquez Rocks though.

Here's what I managed to get done today, despite friends visiting from out of the country and a car accident.

Haven't had time for the hood yet and tomorrow's full up, so hopefully I'll be able to get the whole thing done on Saturday.

It was my friend's car, odds are it's totaled. The rental car that hit us is DEFINITELY totaled, but nobody was hurt. As is usually the case though, we'll have to wait and see if anybody in the other party decides to declare any sudden neck pain.

I should be finishing my script for shooting in 6 hours, but what the heck. I've started in on the hood. Here's what I mean when I say it's going to be a real pain to remove the neck seam.

I have to somehow make those two pieces fit together perfectly without changing their shape at all. This is basically why seams were invented. I'm kind of hating Ubisoft right now. Every other impossibility in the costume up til now I've been able to overcome, from the Escher-like complexity of the right gauntlet to having to contort myself to get in and out of the tunics and chest belt. I don't think I'm going to get away with anything here, though. I think the neck seam is unavoidable.

I wasn't able to remove the neck seam, but I'm otherwise very happy with the pattern I've come up with. You can't really see it in this picture, but the beak on the hood actually curves and hooks like the one in the game!

That prototype was made with an upholstery fabric that unfortunately didn't want to iron out at all, so there are a lot of weird kinks in it. Once it's made in linen it should drape right. I'm going to attempt to gather the shoulders of the mantle the same way you'd gather a sleeve head to try to get them to curve down over my shoulders without a seam. Fingers crossed. I've got 7 hours until the party and still another greave to throw together.

Wow! Great job! I'm thinking I may attempt to make Conner's costume from AC3, but I'll be happy if it looks half as good as yours!

You're doing a fantastic job and I'm glad everyone turned out alright though both cars didn't.

For the hood I was wondering how you are going to give it that detail where it looks like each piece has some string run through it before it's connected. I personally.... Ran a string through it them, took me forever cause I didn't have a sewing machine. :D

Can't wait to see this, hopefully I'll eventually get some extra cash or something so I can take that extra set of robes off of you, plus hopefully an extra hood. :thumbsup

Oh, the tunics actually already sold last week, sorry.

For the hood, I'll be getting a bit creative. I think the real thing has some kind of intricate hand embroidery running around the beak. Instead, I've set it up with some panels and layers. Hard to explain. I got the costume wearable in time for the party, but ended up wearing my Firefly boots as place holders, and the hood wasn't finished or attached properly. Looked really sloppy, but at least I had it. Not only did I work to the last minute, but I also ran out of thread again. I'll take a break until I have work again, I'm not making a special trip to get more.

Unfortunately, the gathered shoulders had little or no affect once they'd been turned right side out and ironed. Kind of a bummer.

Meeting you inspired me to check out the Costume tab ...

Even though I'm not familiar with the character, very much enjoyed seeing you decked-out today ... even more so now that I see the work that went into it. I hadn't considered that anyone would be dressing-up for the event, has me thinking I might wear my Steampunk airship pilot next year (doesn't hold a candle to your efforts).

Thanks! The party was great, good to see all the regulars and meet some new people.

Anyhow, cool things are happening inside my computer this week. Here's a preview.

This is my hidden blade, based off of this video, which is based off of the Amunra blade.

Hidden Blade Dual Action Assassin's Creed (Tutorial) - YouTube

Another day of work and I'll have the templates completely finished. I've been able to improve on his work a bit by choosing sheet styrene as my medium. It allows for mathematical precision and more durability with smaller wall thicknesses. The total size for my blade not including the brackets will be 1 3/8" wide, 9" long, and 7/8" thick. The blade will extend 8" from the case, just past my finger tips. I just have to wait for my local art store to get some more of their .08" styrene in stock (should be about a week) to start cutting out all the pieces and gluing them together.

I've also gotten back to work on my gauntlet, drawing up improved (higher resolution, fancier curves) templates for the metal plates. My plan is still to have them laser cut and then mold and cast them to make them curve, but since I'm in a hurry for Dragon Con, I'm going to carve the first set into some leather, dye it and paint it. Later this week I'm going to hunt down some trim I can use for the armholes (again, in a hurry) in LA and sew that on, then finish the hood and stitch it to the tunic. Everything is coming together.

i know its a lot later than your post but for the edges you could screen print or hand paint/spraypaint/airbrush the design on... thats what i am planning for my outfit.
i suck at sewing. working on the belt now but heres a link to my gauntlets.
i agree video game designers dont have to play by the rules with designs or function. 1's and 0's hold everything together :p
anywho loving your work. looking forward to the rest of it

I'm currently building an Altair suit myself for my moms wedding, I found some sick ribbon material at joanns fabrics, it's a black weavy string ribbon that will look the part cause I can't embroider... And personally i like individual flair, but it worked for me! But Risu, thanks for posting your progress, it's been super inspiring for my suit... I haven't tried actual leather work but seeing yours makes me want to...

Oh hey also, I ran into the same problem getting in and out of my suit, but I made the hood detachable and the upper part of the shoulders snap open and shut with like a bra clasp type of set up... Also the hood attaches in a simmilar manner... Didn't want it to fall off when jogging or parkouring lol( I'm slowly re reading prior posts and reply randomly, awesome work man!)
