Asajj Ventress Silicone Mask

After seeing my silicone Malgus mask some good friends of mine Darth Supes and his lovely wife Annas thought it might be a good idea to make one for her Ventress costume.
How could I refuse them after they made such a great job on my Malgus soft parts.
With a helping hand from Darth Supes we life cast Annas and rendered it in dental stone so i would have an accurate base to sculpt onto.

Using a silicone matrix mould I then made a copy of her life cast in fibreglass. This would be used later for the positive part of the final mould.

I used a hard plastiline modelling clay as the finish had to be very high on this sculpt. We mutually decided that the sculpt should be realistic but still retaining some of the animated stylisation. I started off quite stylised but gradually pulled it back as the the sculpt progressed.

When we were happy with the sculpt it was into the mould. Taking care with the seams as there were no wrinkles or creases to hid the seams with.

Once I popped the mould I usually pour up a quick latex version just to see if there are any issues with the casting. This was just a few coats of latex then foam filled.

I also use it to test paint colours and in the case of these Sith to try out the tattoo patterns.

Once all the testing was out of the way, I prepped the mould for the silicone. I used Smooth-on's Ecoflex 30 with power mesh panels to add strength and tear resistance.
Before closing the mould I stippled in a layer of light flesh tone silicone. To pour the rest of the mould I used a tiny amount of Siltone white with the main colour coming from a mix of blue/red/purple/beige flock.
This is the mask fresh out of the mould. The mould was so nice and tight the flashing just pulled away neatly with no need for trimming.

Thats brilliant as always .

I'm looking forward to the finished paintjob.

Just out of interest, which brand of silicone pigments will you use>?

cheers

I've seen this in person and it's really impressive. Ventress was a big hit at Invasion Belfast and last Monday's St Patrick's Day parade. You should post the throne room picture that Kamil took of Malgus and Ventress Jules.

For the paint I used a mixture of Fuse FX and Psycho Paint coloured with Siltone pigments.
Started with several different washes and flecked colours. Mainly blues and purples, but I also want ed to use some of Annas' natural colouring. Being a lovely flame haired Northern Irish girl I added some russet and auburn hues as wells a some light freckling.

I sealed that with a clear layer to maintain translucency then went ahead with the tattoos which were based out in a dark Prussian blue and feathered with a deep indigo.
I applied these with an airbrush then tidied the edges with a brush. Then i added eye shadow and lip colour. Again sealing it all with a clear coat before finally adding the matting powder and some serious lip gloss. I actually ended up making two versions of this mask. One slightly more animated style with slightly different tattoos.

Got to do the first application with Annas at 'Invasion Belfast VII'. The fit was great but as usual need the obligatory eye and lip make-up to blend it in.
To add a little extra I applied some some long eyelash extensions and Annas splashed out on some gorgeous crystal blue 9mm Effects Lenses. These really made the mask come to life.

Oh and did I mention that she also made the most amazing Ventress costume to go with it!! Absolutely stunning work on that costume. Huge kudos to Paul and Annas for putting this costume together in time. I can see their new costume business 'Cantina Costumes' being a great success. Here's the money shot-

Of course I had to get a pic with her and my Malgus together! lol

I think you are selling yourself well short there big man. Our goal after helping darth serberus with his malgus was to create the best asajj ventress on the planet. As was mentioned Annas has lovely red hair and previously we tried bald caps but as you all know they are very hard to get right and especially when she wanted to troop for hours in it. I visited Serberus to help with the lifecast and had an absolute blast. I then left him to work his magic.
the finished product as you can see is outstanding. It fits Annas like a glove and trust me when I say everybody stops when they see her. I stand 6ft 7 beside her in my vader and I might as well not be there lol.
All I can say is thank you mate from myself and Annas and we are currently working on the bounty hunter version of this costume to make it even better.
If anybody has any doubts about the ability of this guy I can put your mind at rest. He is one of the best sculpters I have ever seen and a true gent. Here's to many years of working with you mate.

It's like a mix of the Cartoon Network and CW TOONS... But REAL!

You nailed it!

And the shape of her head is perfect for a woman with long hair! When I wear my friends SPFX mask my long hair adds size to the face... If that makes sense?

You are a freak man! Amazing talent. The malgus... Well if they make an old republic movie they should give you a shot... Or at least commission you...

Just amazing.

I'm rambling...

LOL!

This is Yet another exceptional work, Your works are at the pinnacle Serberus!! Great talented guy!!(y)D

Regards,

Alberto
