AS handwheel obsession

Mine is getting worse. I've wanted the real thing for about 12 years and it's driving me crazy:lol For some reason this part of the prop is what I want to be real on my saber more than anything else.

I know what you mean, for some reason I am obsessed with making a particular piece of the original ANH Vader costume exact, and it isn't the helmet or armor... and with reference pics I always gravitate to this item first to see what can be revealed...

Okay...now I have to know what it is! :lol

I'm not sure about my handwheel. It seems to be plastic, chrome plated with the removeable center cap that snaps in place. It does not have the red or blue rings like I have seen on some.

Sounds like one of the modern versions. All plastic, 2 pieces (body and cap).

The older vintage ones are 4 pieces. Cubes, inner sleeve, and cap are plastic, top in metal (because it was the piece that attaches to the metal stem from the valve).

I was fine with the repro handwheels, Romans are amazing and I know Russ's will be spectacular. Mine was more right place, right time, and some money to burn.

Robiwon--similar but different (to me it looks way different but I think most people would say 'similar'). The modern ones have much more taper to the cube section, and a different arrangement around the whole end/cap assembly.

Thanks guys. I've been debating over using the one I have on the Russ Obi ANH or getting one from his run in the near future. It would be nice to use this one since it's "real". May not be 100% accurate but my Russ grenade isn't a real grenade either!

The newer one is overall too big, and the cubes are upside-down from most of the known saber photos, plus the incorrect taper Serafino mentioned.

And they're MINE!!! ALL MINE!!! :D (well except for the Gavidoc, which I sold recently)

That is awesome. I have 2 Roman's his 3 piece and his 4 piece and I used to have several of the modern AS handwheels that I sold years ago. I still have my heart set on an original correct version though.. unless someone makes a 100% replica with writing on the removable end cap and all. It seems the closer replicas get, it only makes me want for the orignal that much more... I wish I didn't care.:lol

How chastised would I be for using the newer plastic two piece knob?:lol

I used to have the old version on my saber and it was nice. Lets face it...the casual fan or collector wouldn't know the difference even looking at the pic above. They'd likely say" Hey..they are all the same."
If it suits you, I'd put in on there!

Yup, in the end its what make YOU happy.

Personally I find the 'hunt' more enjoyable, because once its over, and everything is put together, it's just another lightsaber, and looks pretty much like the other 10,000,000 similar lightsabers out there...

I know what you mean SaberFreak, but if you want the hunt back, I'll gladly buy your accurate handwheel. :love
Hey..a guy can try. :lol

Hmmm... Maybe someone should do a run of JUST endcaps?

(I know, there are indications that the endcap was not present for some, and possibly none, of the filming.)

While I would love to have an accurate endcap, I can't see myself putting it on a saber where all the other parts are replicas.

Now if I had all the found parts like some lucky folks do... well that would be another story then! :lol
