Arrow S4 & Hawkeye :AOU Inspired Build

Hello! It's that time of year again. The time when me and my best bud Logie-Bear create matching costumes for halloween!

Last year it was Shazam and Thor the "Thunder Buddies"



Keeping with out "One Marvel, One DC" theme we will be doing The Green Arrow and Hawkeye! Last time we made our costume in one month, now we're giving ourselves two months! Usually our costumes are just cardboard, hot glue, and a good paint job but this year we're getting professional!

My first piece i will attempt is the Arrow's domino mask! This is a season 4 build, but I cannot find a good image of the mask on his new costume. So for now I'll be making the one he used in the previous three seasons and I will change it if I need too.

First attempt ever at sculpting a mask, and really just sculpting in general! I used Sculpt Eraser clay, a dental pick, a samurai sword/letter opener, and a face cast from a couple years ago. Here to hoping I don't screw this up!

So I used a rough piece of foam packing, a morning glory leaf, and a towel to try to create a leather texture in the clay...I am not very happy with the results so I'm going to try something else....don't know what, cause I don't really know what I'm doing but we'll see!



I also bought fabric for the Hawkeye:AOU build too! I was going t originally use this burgundydark/red color



But Logie-Bear, who will be wearing the costume, wanted something more purple. So this is what we have!



Now I need to learn how to use a sowing machine! Anyone know how to sew the piping around the edges of hawkeyes jacket? or can post a link on how to do it? I've been searching but I've been having a hell of a time finding one.

So today I started the work on the pants... start from the bottom now we're here!...at the bottom...well any who, right now I'm working on the pattern! since there really hasn't been much photo evidence around for what his pant's look like...



There was a video Stephen Amell posted before his WWE gig where he showed off some of his season 4 gear. I'm trying to find it so I can get some screen grabs. He shows off his boots which appear to still be the same nikes with some military looking shoe cover sown to the top, and a great shot of the back of his vest. Once again...I have NEVER used a sewing machine, so I'm guessing I'll use a jeans pattern as the base and adapt where I see need to. I could be TOTALY WRONG if so, please let me know Comments, tips, and/or suggestions are always welcomed!

So for the Arrow, I will have one arrow just for picture. This arrow will be one of Arrow's "Trick Arrows" and have the ability to light up! Prop making is something I'm good at, so this one will be a breeze! ...probably not, but I can dream can't I? First I removed an LED panel from a toy boomerang.



The lights are blue and red, so i'm going to replace the blue with a green LED I have. I will make a mock up out of foam and wood, and then slush cast it in clear resin (Maybe smooth on will have something clear and rubbery cause safety first kids!). Paint it, put in the electronics. and TADA! hopefully I will have a working arrow head!!

So today I worked on the quiver! This quiver (as with most of the pieces to this costume) will be Mark 1 or "Inspired by Season 4" since I will be showing off the costume the week the season 4 premiere haha This was a simple build. Took a large piece of pvc pipe I had in the garage, cut it to shape and put it in the oven. After I removed the hot plastic pipe, I formed it with a cold towel to what I want. used EVA foam for detail, paint, and ta-da! Quiver!

What size PVC pipe you sure because was thinking of doing the same technique for my Hawkeye costume?

It is schedule 40, 4-inch pvc! it's really easy to do, I would recommend it

Long time without an update, but here's what I have! For the mask, I cast it and painted the bad boy!

For the forearm guards I decided that making it look like metal instead of the original leather. They're made from pleather, eva foam, and a decent paint job.

For the leg pieces I decided that instead of the tiny arrow/dart holders, to go with metal leg guards. No having to worry about the fletchings or anything like that.

For the bow, I went with my own personal interpretation of the bow Oliver had most of the first season.

For Hawkeye, We have the quiver 70% complete.

For his Shirt, most of it will be covered by his "Duster/vest" but his arms will be exposed. We want to give him the option of taking off the "Duster/vest" so I dyed a waffle thermal shirt purple, then using puff paint came up with a pattern that incorporates the wedge logo he has in some comics. I make an avengers "A" logo out of eva foam that I will glue down once the puff paint lines dry.
