Aria T'loak Mass Effect WIP (Image heavy!)

Nice!!! And yeah, yay for latex not being fully cured (though ask me some time about latex frozen in transit and trying to cast and thinking you'd done something wrong.....

Topstitching PVC, shudder. Yes. (did the same for Liara's white and blue Shadowbroker outfit).

Really nice work on the boots too XD And looove the buckles. What thickness styrene did you use? I know I can cut 1.5mm with a craft knife but it's pretty hard getting such even lines. And I usually wind up with blood all over due to knife slipping.

what kind of fabric are you using in this pic, did you get it online. I am making a iron man suit and think I would use this material to make some of the under armor parts that you would see. and the quality of your work looks amazing.

Thank you! I used this upholstery vinyl: Upholstery Vinyl Classic Black Carbon Fiber | DIY Upholstery Supply

They were pretty thin sheets. The bottom layer was 0.04" (1mm) and the top layer was 0.02" (about 0.5mm) I used an exacto knife to cut it; for the 1mm I had to score it a few times before it cut through, and then I sanded the edges to make sure they were smooth.

I just take a swipe with a blade and then bend the cut line until it snaps off. Popping 0.06 styrene is so satisfying, even if I need to sand the edges a bit afterwards. It's why I'm much happier working with plastic than thick, veg-tanned hide.

Thanks everyone! I took the costume to a local con as a sort of trial run this weekend, and was really happy with how well the makeup turned out. I've never done any kind of makeup like this before, so I was thrilled with how well the seam of the head piece was hidden. My biggest issue was that I used a water based makeup, and so portions of the makeup ended up rubbing off on the straps around my waist even with multiple layers of barrier spray, and my eyes were watering a lot during the day because contact lenses, so I would end up with little patches of fleshtone at the corner of my eyes.

I tried competing in a masquerade for the first time, and ended up taking best craftsmanship! I was also able to rope 2 talented photographers in to doing a shoot with me :D and am waiting to get some photos back from them in a couple of weeks.

I didn't take any pictures (I never do....herp derp...) but here's a teaser hallway shot that I found online until I get some good pictures back.

I'm also currently working on some blueprints for a gun. Aria uses SMGs and Shotguns in the DLC, but I felt that a pistol would work better for pictures since I could hold it one handed. I decided to make the Shuriken SMG since it looks the most like a pistol of all the SMGs. I'm planning on making the gun out of EVA foam, since I don't have the appropriate tools to make one out of MDF, and my husband has nixed me spending $200 on an SMG kit :(...

Here's a couple of shots that came out of the photoshoot. :D

I'm doing a few of revisions on the costume for AX. I'm in the middle of casting a new headpiece (I tried casting one over the weekend, and pulled it out this morning...and managed to tear a big hole where I guess I didn't get enough latex. :( ) and going to do a new paint job on it.

I'm also in the middle of testing out some new makeup. I wasn't really happy with how I had to keep touching up the bodypaint last time, so I'm testing some PAX and seeing how my skin will react...Fingers crossed.

Excellent - I love it when the photographer captures details like the skin texture on your mask, which you obviously spent time and effort getting just right. Sometimes I'm disappointed when photographers (or maybe costumers themselves) crank up the contrast way too high and you lose those features. Well done! You look pretty comfy too.
