Are mannequins for prop display creepy?

Anyone that suggested mannequins for prop displays are creepy, is creepy themselves! :p

Whilst away on vacation recently, my lovely neighbour agreed to look after the cat and house - however, after seeing a lifesize Frankenstein's Monster upon walking in on the first night, and almost having a heart attack, she refused to come back at night without her husband. I really should have warned her, I suppose.

So yes - some non-prop people really DO find them creepy in a home environment, there's no escaping the reality of that.

But when you've worked on displays for a long time and modified or built mannequins, you become completely desensitized to them, of course. They just become big display stands for cool stuff, or big action figures.

I had one for a while. Everyone that came over (even other costumers) were a bit freaked out by them. Don't get me wrong, I dig displaying a suit of armor like that but if I were to do it again in the future, I'd have an entire room dedicated to just them and other misc. props, like a prop museum.

I've got one, but it is in a dedicated room just for prop displays, so it fits.

The suit on it rotates. It was Boba Fett for a while, now it's Captain Rex.

In my opinion;

If the Mannequin's face is showing- Yes

If the face is covered (say by a helmet or a mask)- Not really

I'll be honest, though. Even if the face on a mannequin is going to be covered anyway, I still always put a strip of ducttape over it's eyes. That way if he ever comes to life, he won't be able to find me:lol.
