Are mannequins for prop display creepy?

When I moved I was thinking of buying a mannequin to put my wearable props on (GL rings/Cyberman helment/BTTF color changing cap/etc.) but when I told people my idea they gave me that "get away from me freak!" look and said that was the creepiest thing they'd ever heard. I kept saying "but Ferris Bueller had a mannequin!" but that didn't convince them at all =P. Admittedly I could see myself being terrified if it's late at night and I'm stumbling around and forget it's there, but I was just wondering what you prop collectors out there thought. Can't wait to see what the Auton fans say! =)

Admittedly, a mannequin by itself might give people the wrong impression, but one otherwise completely outfitted with the type of lifesize paraphernalia that is the hobby around here is a different thing. Maybe your friends were thinking you might be leaning toward a "Silence of the Lambs" kind of thing rather than, say, Darth Vader or whatever...? :lol

who cares what other people think...if it makes you happy and think it will be a great display than go for it.

there are tons of members that have mannequins to display their costumes...seen several star ship troopers, boba fett, storm troopers, etc etc....I have one in my room..unfortunately, the one I have doesnt have a head to display one of my helmets :(

I think if you have the space and the desire, go for it. I personally have a mannequin hand from a jewelry store that I display my Green Lantern rings on and nobody has ever given me "that look."

Mannequins no.

But painted up heads look creepy to me. Mostly because a lot of the time they are just not realistic. But when they ARE, that's even creepier.

I'd go with no head or all white head, and not even try to make it look real.

Basically the more real looking the more creepy.

I had one for a while. Everyone that came over (even other costumers) were a bit freaked out by them. Don't get me wrong, I dig displaying a suit of armor like that but if I were to do it again in the future, I'd have an entire room dedicated to just them and other misc. props, like a prop museum.

Absolutely. I suggest to save yourself further embarassment after you buy said mannequin send it and all props to be displayed on it my way immediately so I can take the brunt of creepiness for you!!!!!!!!

All joking aside do what you want man. If I had something cool to display I would for sure get myself a mannequin to display items on.

"Are mannequins for prop display creepy?"

Only if they have eyes that follow you no matter where you stand in the room. :lol

Go for it man! Its really so much better having costumes on a mannequin. I have 3 and a torso atm and another 3 on the way aswell. Better than having the items hanging around in presses, boxes or on the floor.

The other half used to get freaked out by them at the start but shes made friends :p

Maybe they gave you the get away freak look because you want to put a Cyberman helmet,BTTF cap and GL ring on it, that's a doozy of an ensemble. :D

becareful...they might come alive

How about wire frame mannequins? Less human like, and they alow the eye focus on the props and not the weird humanoid in them.

If it's that creepy, just throw a sheet over it.

Wait, maybe not.

Maybe cover it with large bandages?

Hold on...no.

A Hazmat suit?

This hole keeps getting deeper!
