Howdy folks!
So what do you get the girl who has everything for Xmas?…why DYNAMITE of course!! Let me explain.
Currently on my workbench, I’m working on an R. J. MacReady from ‘The Thing” cosplay for next year (thread here). The first thing I knocked out was the dynamite and Molotov cocktail harness. My wife immediately got very, very jealous. You see she is a historical nut for the Old West with a peculiar love of explosives. To say the train robbery in ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” is a favorite of hers is a massive understatement.
In doing a bit of research on dynamite and in particular the brand used in ‘The Thing’, specifically Hercules Explosives, I discovered that they were one of the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of explosives in the Old West! So much so they had their own trains (another passion of hers)! So I did some digging and found this very real antique Hercules Powder Co. dynamite carrying crate and blasting cap tin. So doing some more digging for old logos and labels for the Hercules Powder Co. from the period, I created some replica dynamite sticks, and put together an accurate Old West dynamite play set for her.
Not a movie or tv prop but a prop none the less! Thanks for having a look and indulging me.
