Apollo A7L Moon Suit

Sewed up the suitside ring fabric collar this morning (outer). Going to do the inner portion tomorrow and then later in the week the torso back and the adapter piece between the torso and ring collar.

My snaps came in for the torso so taking a little detour to do them and the velcro on the torso front:

Patterning the fabric squares that sit behind the snaps. The snaps are General Tools snap fasteners (General Tools & Instruments 1265 Snap Fastener Kit with 6 Fasteners: Amazon.ca: Tools & Home Improvement). The white washer behind the snap was done right quick in 3D Studio and printed out (18 of them!).

The finished piece, the camera makes the velcro look darker than it is in person. Snaps and fabric squares went on first, then the velcro so I could get the proper overlapping seen in reference photos. I would have preferred to do it the other way around for ease but got it done.

A closeup of one of my nicer snaps and velcro after the sewing is done.

Shot of where I am right now. The torso is sewn together with both layers and some cotton batting in between for that "puffed" look. One arm complete, waiting on my US flag to arrive to do the other. Expecting my knockoff OMEGA Speedmaster watch tomorrow.

Just realized looking at this picture one of the connectors is the wrong orientation, oops! And they are all currently held on via Phillips screws vs the proper slotted ones as those are taking their sweet time getting to me. Will replace when they arrive for accuracy.

I'm also expecting the arrival soonish of some waterslide decals, will be nice to apply those everywhere. I'm currently doing up a bit of a last shoulder piece to sit between the torso and arm, and after that moving on.

I should note, for the purists, I'm basing my suit on Mr. Aldrin's Apollo 11 suit, but have added commander's stripes simply because I think they look cool.

Still to do:

Legs
Beavertail and zipper
Pressure release valve/guage stuff
Leg accents (legbag/pockets etc)
Boots
Snoopycap.

Thank you for the kind words. I have had to create my own patterns, using a combination of reference photos and a bee keeper suit that fits me. So far so good. I wish I could throw them to you but they are just paper patterns and I've thrown some out once I was done with them.

Not a problem! I figured I would have to scratch build some patterns once I started down this rabbit hole. This project started as 1 glove as a display piece for my office, which turned into a set and now onto the entire suit....

Yeah no kidding! I'm hoping someone pops up with a snoopy cap template otherwise that's going to be a lot of trial and error.

Was looking forward to launch day but the mission was just scrubbed; oh well more time for sewing!

Got another arm on, I managed to get the sizing right as I can shimmy into this with the zipper undone quite easily but it's not too baggy. Couldn't wait to get the left arm sewn on so I'll have to hand stitch the US flag when it arrives.

Gonna need a shave and a haircut when I sport this for Halloween haha.

Looks Awesome! I much prefer this over the newer pj's they had on today.
