Anyone Scratchbuild a Mal Reynolds Pistol?

Like the title says...seems like it would be a fun and relatively simple summer project, if one was to buy the wooden grips. Anyone done it?

I'm planning on it, but haven't made any progress. A while ago I found a toy gun for the base that had the perfect handle and trigger guard (basically that's all that'll be visible after the buildup). It was a dollar store toy gun that's half revolver and half rifle (it's about 20" long).

If I ever get to it, I suspect it'll be more "in the spirit" of the weapon than an actual replica.

Whitefall, before he went to work for QMx, did a poster with all of his variants on the Liberty Hammer, which was his name for the pistol.

One was a rifle/carbine model which would fit in well with what you're talking about with the revolver/rifle hybrid. And it's worth noting that there were real weapons like that. Two Fry's weapon was pretty much an unmodified period piece.

Its on my, To Do, list. Been working out the shape of the bits in a 3D package first before I commit to cutting panels.

Its on my to do list too. If I do it I will machine mine from brass. However I will ONLY go through the work involved if I find a deactivated frame to work with. Even if its just the bottom part of the frame as long as the trigger and hammer are still there. I dont care if the top of the frame is hacked off.

Heres a pic of what I've come up with so far...

What do you think?

If I could find the base gun over here I would love to scratch build one.

In the last few months its been hard to even buy toy guns in the UK.

Well....tried to output the 3D model of Mals gun to Pepakura....and that didn't work, sooooo. Taking the measurements off the 3D peice and plotting them onto sheet styrene so I can cut the panels out. Hopefully I'll have it right and will have something to show you all soon.

Anyone else having a go?

Well...I've got a little bit done, once I've got todays chores out of the way I'll take some pics and post em up.

and heres one...
