Opinions of it? It's certainly... cheap.

Or, conversely, if there's already a review/comparison thread, please point me at it.

Search came up empty.

Thanks,

Russ

Some one recently posted a review of South Beach Jackets and it wasn't great. It wasn't on the Rocketeer jacket but majority of the replies were pretty negative.

I own the higher end Abbyshot jacket, and while the color is way too dark brown, I LOVE IT. It's a REAL jacket, not a "costume" jacket. It's fully lined and worth every penny. I'm not sure if they offer it still, didn't see it on the Website last time I was there.

Wested makes a version as well, but it's still too dark.

I noticed Indy Magnoli now as a Secord Jacket in his line up but not sure if he offers the version with the bib on it, his is the version Cliff wears earlier in the film.

There is another jacket maker out there but he's now a banned member, banned over a Rocketeer prop of all things, so I wouldn't send him a penny.

I own the Southbeach Leather Jacket.

I bought it a few years ago before I knew other versions existed.

The company website photos are misleading. They are pictures of the Wested Jacket. And their main shop is in Pakistan.

It is a decent jacket. You get what you paid for. The color is off. The color is darker than the original jacket and the buttons are hideous.

Basically it is the best bang for your buck. It is the cheapest rocketeer jacket online. If you want to save money than this jacket is for you. Only recomendation is changing the buttons.

The Wested and Abbeyshot jackets are dark too and are on the pricey side.

In my opinion, the best jacket made was from the "banned" member. I was planning to purchase a jacket from him, but after some unfortunate events. I decided to look else where. I will never do business with him.

Magnoli Jacket does look nice, but for that price and without the BIB. The jacket does seem rather pointless (IMHO) unless you know a great tailor that can add on the bib. If he included the BIB and accurate Buttons, than I would consider purchasing it.

I will include some pictures of the South Beach Leather jacket.

I can do the full Rocketeer Jacket for the same price as my Secord Jacket, no problem...

Kind regards,
Magnoli

oooooh really??? hmmm... Do you have a source for the correct buttons?

I'm planning on ordering the boots soon, might just pick up a 2nd jacket too!

That is amazing news..

Maybe some-one will be kind enough to give you a source to accurate buttons.

I heard the Abbeyshot jacket buttons were casted off from the Banned members jacket.

maybe some-one can fill in the gaps for the buttons.

hmmm... I have an abbyshot jacket, I'll email them and see if they'll send me a loose button. They yanked the jacket from their line so I'm wondering if they have any buttons left.

Well, keep me posted. If someone can get me a good buttons, I can do my own manufacturing, no problem...

Kind regards,
Magnoli

I bought a Southbeach Leather Rocketeer jacket earlier this year.

To add to what others have said, it's okay. Not great, but does the job. With better buttons it could look a lot better.

I received mine with a loose tooth in the zipper that makes it difficult to zip... But considering I was able to negotiate a cheaper price, I can live with it.

I think I'll take a chance and buy the Southbeach jacket. Any tips on sizing? They're a bit vague on that.

Do you mind me asking what the "asking" price and the "negotiated" prices were?

I've wanted to get one of their Mad Max 1 jackets too, but the reports are the same, kind of cheap.

But for a costume and not a daily wear jacket, I'm sure it would be fine.

Do you have pics of your Southbeach jacket?

Also, anyone know if the jacket buttons are/were a custom made thing for
the film, or a vintage button?

I posted photos of the south beach leather jacket on page 1..

Most of the rocketeer costume is based on ww2 clothing, so i figure the buttons can be from that era but maybe wrong.

I have the southbeath leather jacket too - they made it to fit me, and considering how low the cost was, it really is a great jacket. yeah the buttons suck - and the color is very light on mine - but works just the same.
As far as accurate buttons go - if Indy Magnoli can manufacture buttons - we could have one of our talented board members sculpt an accurate button from scratch and pass it along to Indy...
