Anyone got some deer vertebrae? Cow? Maybe a leg bone?

I'm hesitant to go on ebay to buy these, but I do kinda need a few pieces of random bone for a display idea for my friend's kid.

His birthday is coming up later in the year, and we are doing a treasure hunt, and I think some "dragon bones" would be pretty awesome as a little addition to the chest display. Already got some armor I can make all melty, so this is kinda the last bit.

I'd go hunt on my parents farm, but they haven't had cows for about 3 years now up there (got rid of em shortly after my dad died), and plus I'm not exactly pro "go out in the high fields where the cotton mouths are" at the moment.

Never hurts to ask :)

wish I could help.but I'm trapped in a city too.what about a butcher shop are something in that regard...

I would try a butcher's, even the meat section of supermarket. A lot of them carve up their own meat on site these days. They would likely be just throwing them out, you may get them free or for a nominal small fee. If you do that you'd likely have to clean them up yourself, just boil the hell out of them, then scrub with a pan scrub. They are then easily aged up with regular garden dirt.

:(

Called every local butcher I could find. No one slaughters em locally anymore and the meat they get is already pretty much deboned.

Appreciate the help though :)

Try finding some baked bone dog treats. I'm not sure where you'll find them in LA, but around here there are farming/utility stores (ie: Mills Fleet Farm and other farm/all in one stores) that carry knuckle/leg/arm bones that are used as dog treats.

I don't know why, but for some reason this thread's title is absolutely hilarious to me. :lol

Sorry, I have nothing constructive to add (asking the local butchers would've been my suggestion, too).

I have bought several animal skulls off of ebay from a guy for my wife's classroom with no problems at all...let me know if you want his contact info and I will try to find it for you...

take care,
Tommy

Dang,if I had known, I could have saved some stuff from deer season last winter...Could have even given you some bear bones! I'll see if anyone around has any cleaned up stuff.

I appreciate it, but I don't want to try to buy em online if I can help it. I don't have much of a budget for the build and setup, so every penny saved is another cool thing to add to the project.

I may have some or you. What size, quantity, etc. are you looking for?

Pretty much whatever is available. The idea is to bury a treasure and put some artifacts around it, dragon bones, melted swords, melted armor, etc.

The more, the better. Nothing massive though, since there is a limit to how big we want to make the hole :lol

If one of those options doesn't work, I know a butcher here in town that cuts up the entire cow. I've seen them do it! Not sure they'll sell the bones, but I can ask.

I appreciate it :).

I still have a few months to go before the party and treasure hunt, but don't wanna wait till the last minute on getting the detail stuff done.

I'll drop you a PM about it if these fall through :)

Thanks!!!!!

I have a small box of old deer bones. Mostly ribs & vertebrate (If I remember right). I haven't been through it in awhile. I'll take a pic of them tonight, and you can see if there's anything that will work.

I'll check my father-in-law's place. They're the big hunters. I was SUPER bummed, I guess that he gave away the claws from the black bear he shot. All I have are a few antlers in my garage it looks like. I might have another cool dragon thing your friends kid might like though,I'll update with a pic...

EDIT: here ya go. Not the exact same one as the what I have(mine has a slightly thinner & smoother claw)

Go to your nearest fabric store and buy a couple of yards of faux alligator skin (Joann's fabrics, $6.50 yrd).
Wrap those bones up in enough dragon hide for the kid to make a cape.
