I bow down to the greatness of the Mollo.

I was just thinking how I wish there was a book of his sketches and esigns.

Great designer.

How did you get to meet him?

Spill the beans.

He was at the Star Wars con at Honiton in the UK. He was really happy to chat away about Alien, as he normally only gets asked about Star Wars. He's mostly done historical dramas recently like Hornblower.

I studied and started one of these back in 96, never finished it, but Bob did give me some dimensions and such on it as I'd mentioned I was doing this project...by the way, most of the detail on the exterior of the helmet is various photo etched details from various sets that were just glued on and then final molds made..
. Bill Malone has the one that was featured for many years over at the Great Movie Ride at Disney MGM Studios...i also have that little limeted edition cold cast porcelien Alien Astronaut fascehugger kit, which i took a cast off the helmet and ground off the face hugger leaving only the helmet.
I have the dome I bought way back for the helmet project, It's a 21" dia dome..
Best,
Will

The A L I E N Kane spacesuit as it appears today- I believe it is in a private collection now- it looks like it has been lovingly cared for and is in great shape for being 30 years old.

Looks like one could almost buildup and sculpt helmet right on the dome.

That's what I was thinking - - at least the top half...

Most of the detail covering the helmet is photo-etched texturing. Look closely at the Burns' helmet and you'll see what I mean. And they definitely used hockey gloves, that was mentioned in an article I read a long time ago.
