Any RPFers know about leather weaving or braiding?

I guess this is in the right forum, since it concerns a prop work-in-progress.

I've done some leather-work before, but certain patterns I just can't wrap my brain around (without some insight).

I'm re-doing a sword hilt & I'd like to use this pattern (referring to the narrow strips):



Does anyone here have the know-how or deductive capabilities to break this down for me (i.e. how many strips used, which strips go over which)? I guess I need it to be explained in a stupidly simple manner...

I'd love to see the back of that. Except for the horizontal parts, I'm pretty sure it could be done with two strips. As shown, no clue.

I too would have to see a 360 view of it. Its quite possibly 2 strips. It depends.
