Anti-Shark Spray

Here's another try with Futura Regular Bold.

Good enough? Remember these are flat drawings that will roll around a can so they look a little taller.

I tried to duplicate the funky spacing. Or would you guys rather have them "normalize"

Do you really want the white "drop shadow". I think it's a photographic artifact.

Let me know if this is good enough and I get masks or letter or labels made up.

And what are the fonts on the sign. Might as well go all the way here. This would look awesome hanging on my shop wall.

That's awesome, Michael! The spacing looks dead on to me. :thumbsup

So you think the white shadowing at the edges of the screen-seen cans is just a photographic artifact -- a reflection or the like? If this is the case then obviously we don't need them built into the lettering on the replicas.

Is this the only screenshot of the actual cans we have? I seem to remember a shot of Batman/West actually using the Shark Repellent can when he was hanging on a ladder from the Batcopter and was attacked by a shark. I don't have access to my DVD at the moment, but can look for the shot when I get home tonight, unless someone else has some shots handy. :)

Anyway, maybe some additional screencaps will help us make an evaluation on the white shadowing.

Again, lovely work, Michael. Thank you! :love

Well, I made the decision to not go movie accurate. This is a cheesey prop to go with my Batman collection. Anyone who sees it won't know if it's accurate or not. Hell, I've seen the damn thing 100 times and I couldn't recall from memory what the cans looked like until this thread came up. So after much thought, I wanted to go with the spirit of what the can represented. In the movie, they actually call it " shark repellent Bat spray", so that's what mine is going to say. I think it finishes that level of cheesiness whenever someone reads it.

I had that same thought and am planning to put the words Bat Spray on the other side.

I'm home and have access to my DVD now... but have realized that my home computer is set for Region 1, and my DVD is Region 2. That means I'll have to wait until I'm back at the office on Monday, with my Region 2 computer, to take caps. :$

So how do we want to make these?

I agree I'm not going to go nuts looking for the right cap, but I am going to look through Lowe's and Menard's tomorrow, and look for the closest match I can find.

As for the letters.

I've thought of four ways to do this:

1. Red and white Vinyl letters.

I don't think we should try to do the white shadow. I think it just a reflection of the edge of whatever is there. I watched the movie to day. And when Robin pull the can off the wall and pops the top, you can sort of see it's just red.

To do the shadow with vinyl letter, you would need to stack a set of red letter on top of white. If they are exactly the same cutouts, the stagger would leave a line across the letter where the overlap occurs.

Or I'd have to make the white shadow a little bigger so they could be stack properly. But that would be super hard to apply to the can, exactly right.

2. Just red vinyl. Apply them to a painted can.

3. A paint mask. Paint the red, apply the mask, paint the metalic blue, peel the mask. Clearcoat.

4. Paint mask for the white. Vinyl letters for the red. Maybe not so hard to align.

And for ultra accuarcy, the nozzle on the spray can should be red. At least for the Shark Spray.

You guys are amazing! For such a simple prop, your passion for this sorta thing has been shining throughout this thread....I love watching your progress in such things. I thank you for your efforts and I know my mate (who is the guy that asked me about this in the first place) thanks you even more..........and to be honest, Id actually love one of these now for myself!!!:lol

Thanks again for your efforts guy...however this turns out!! :)

Just wanted to know if anything has come off from this?

I was the one who asked Paul to start this thread but now that I am a member............I thought I would ask.

I've got the artwork all set to cut in vinyl letters but have just been too busy/lazy to finish them off. Plus I can't find a proper color paint in the area I live.

Nope, you were going to look for me.

Another guy was going to hit the Pepboys where he lives but it didn't happen either.

Plus the only vinyl cutter here in Sturgis screwed me on a T-shirt deal and I am still fighting to get that money back, so it's unlikely he will cut me vinyl.

I'll gladly turn over my artwork if someone wants to do this, as long as I get a couple sets of letters.

My brother helps run a sign shop. I'll see if he can get me a good deal or if his boss is gonna demand full price. But regardless, I can have the lettering done.

I've got the laser guy that did my Kryptonite Smallville keys that does vinyl as well.

My schedule is really tight at the moment, but I can get this done, too...
