Anti-Shark Spray

Here is a better grab of the cans. It seems the ones found so far has a wrong cap. It need to have vertical grooves.

I also made this file based on the screen grab

Nice work, staermose. I especially like how you got the hint of white peeking out from behind each letter. :) :thumbsup

The font is still not quite a match, and the word "REPELLENT" seems to span a wider distance on the screen-seen cans (top pictures of each pair below) than on your version-in-progress (bottom pictures). Notice, for example, how the word REPELLENT extends beyond the edges of the word WHALE on the screen-seen can, but is much narrower on the reproduction.

Coming along nicely in these early stages. Keep up the good work! :love

Thanks, Pilot!

Here's what I've got. I think Franklin Gothic Extended might be a better match, but I don't have that one myself. The natural spacing of this font isn't 100% perfect, but if you played around with the spacing a little more than I did it could look closer.

Its only "close". Look at the M, B and C. They are off still. But perhaps a combination of fonts may produce an accurate result. I'll see what I can come up with :)

Here are a new version. Some of the letters are sill a little off. Like the D and the M.

I'm thinking that these amay be handmade, back in the thay that wasn't uncommon. And that may be the reason that no one font will match a 100%.

Here's my current version of Repellent.

I basically outlined Franklin the made things thicker and thinner where necessary.

Still kind of fat.

Do you think the lettering could be a dry transfer with white "shadow" or do you think the lettering is a little raised?

i think the lettering is raised.
looks to me like whatever the letters were cut from was thick, and had a white backing.

Unlikely to be vinyl letters in 60's. Not to say we couldn't do them that way now.

Not Futura. The A has a flat top. Futura doesn't have that. The Franklin Gothic is real close but I only have the Medium. If I had Heavy that might do it.

Actually that IS Futura Bold. Thinner Futuras have pointed A's, but the bolder ones have the correct flat top.

Plain old Futura Bold - easy.

They might be old vinyl sign letters. The kind that come in do-it-yourself packs. Those kind have a raised edge around them because they were stamped out. There is no white on the cans those are real highlights off the edge of the thick letters.
If they did use plain old stick on letters then they're probably very basic sizes 1-inch and 1/2-inch tall letters.

Cut vinyl would be the best modern solution.

I bow to a Master of graphics and image. Chris you were right. All Futura Bold.

Still not 100% happy with it but closer. Need to thin a few spots.

This is actually Futura ExtndBold. I don't seem to have just Futura Bold.

Dudes... I need two of these cans as gifts for friends who are currently reliving the 60s.

I would be willing to pay well [ replica wise ] for two of these.

I would prefer the cans with the large red bat... whether that is accurate or not. It just looks like a cooler prop. As far as accuracy goes... come on! It's 1960s batman TV....

Are you saying you plan to pay using counterfeit money? :p

But seriously, it would be cool to see this project bear some bat-fruit. I'd be in for a can or two for sure! :D

Personally, I'm going to go with the WD-40 can. It's close enough for me as I refuse to put a lot of brain power into this one. :lol
I'm going to paint the cap yellow then spay the whole can with metalic blue auto paint. Finally I'm using red vinyl (stickers) lettering. I'd rather someone here offered the lettering but in enough time I'll be able to get them myself. Pretty easy little project.
And no, I'm not going for 100% accuracy. I mean, who would CARE? :lol
