ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

So I got a Bobamaker helmet in for repainting a few days ago, happy to give you my thoughts with it in hand. These photos show the stock helmet just as it arrived to me. I also took one next to my proto helmet to show the size.

I do like the sculpture, however, it is super obvious it started as a Boba Fett Helmet. The proportions and finer forms are very “Boba.” I think he would have been better off starting with a proper ground up sculpture referencing the real helmet.

As for size, it doesn’t look like it but the Bobamaker is considerably bigger. Even a little bigger than my FPH2. The paintjob is pretty flat and missing some of the details like the ear and vent color variation just as an example. Virtually no weathering on the helmet save for a pass of black airbrushing. If you’ve got a larger head, Bobamaker may be a very good lid for you, but beyond that I honestly can’t say I’d recommend it personally.

In my opinion EFX is the helmet to get, but Anovos would be the next best thing.

Someone on FB posted photos of their newly delivered Anovos Mando bucket - and it's pretty damn nice. The only major thing that sticks out to me is the vertical visor cut seems too wide compared to the actual screen used helmet. It seems pretty significant. Also not a big fan of the weathering - but I could live with it.

Will be interesting to see how the EFX turns out. Also wish EFX released higher-res versions of their Mando helmets in progress - especially this "final production sample".

Thanks for the tips. Isopropyl alcohol didn’t touch it. Oven cleaner was kind of working, but it started to take off the chrome on a test piece. So I could try acetone next.

I had similar experience doing the same to a Kylo. Alcohol wont get it. I think acetone got it but only after lots of rubbing at it. I mentioned oven cleaner because i know it will work. I was trying to strip the chrome on mine. The chrome was completely unaffected by acetone IIRC.
Acetone should remove the black marks but not any chrome. But still the black was tough stuff.
Heres what spraying oven cleaner directly on it does.

Wow! Yeah, that's wild. I'm going to try acetone tonight. I think I'll avoid oven cleaner for now.

honestly, it would be easier to get some black paint and simply improve the weathering patterns.

I agree – the only reason I haven't resorted to that is because there's too much paint already for it to match the screen-used helmet. So adding more paint would even out the lazy weathering, but it's not the look I'm going for. I'm going to carefully try acetone tonight, and if that fails I might just go for that evening out option.

Edit: By the way, I emailed ANOVOS about it, and of course I haven't heard a peep back. Sent them pictures and everything. I would be shocked if they actually responded. That company has major, major issues.

Weathering on that Anovos Mando looks crap and way too much orangey brown on it. Did they actually approve this production sample !

I honestly dont care at this point if the stuff’s not perfect so long as we actually get something...
Props can be fine tuned, Kits can altered, Misfitting items traded, or the whole shebang be resold... but I can’t do jack **** with nothing but air in my hands
I’m still not convinced they wont go under before most of us get our stuff given the very very deep hole they’ve put themselves into. Especially Q4 2020 folks

I don't think I ever saw this anywhere but it stands to reason, was the Alumaluster used for the Beskar armor as well? I assumed his helmet was Beskar but it never explicitly said this from what I remember.

Yikes. One of the distinctive features of the mando bucket is the tapering vertical portion of the visor. This looks closer to Fett than Mando.

That's my helmet. I've attached a picture from a slightly different angle, and some screen shots from the series, and it looks similar. For sure they used different helmets throughout the series, so who knows which helmet Anovos actually scanned.

Well, acetone and a little re-weathering did the trick. Before and after photos attached. Acetone does start to eat the chrome, so you have to be SUPER careful. Much happier with the look now.

looks more realistic is the black on the Bottom band in the middle paint or the exposed black under the chrome? How did you apply the acetone? Did much chrome come off

Thanks. That's actually a black paint effect on the bottom middle band, so I can pull that back if I want. I tested a little bit of acetone on an area of chrome I knew I would cover with black – it ate down to an off-white base pretty quickly. So the key was being very quick with it, and wiping off excess with water immediately. I used a Q-tip.

Ideally I’d like the bottom band black free so you think it’s possible with a quick light rub of acetone and then a light wipe with a cloth ?
